Belt splitting

Post by TxDAEWOOxT »

I heard a noise coming from the pully side of the motor. It didnt do it at idel, but it did do it a higher rpm. I saw that the belt running the a/c comp was splitting (the skin is coming off). What other parts does that belt run? What is the belt called? ie.. timing belt, __?__ belt. Where to find one? Thanks

if you've done the timing then the accessroy belt is no proble. i'm not 100% but but the power steering or the alt. will come loose and that's all, i'm not sure you even need to pull the motor mount, it's been a while since seeing a 1.6 in a lanos.

Txdaewooxt,
No need to panic,
It's just the A/C belt. And thats all it turns. No big deal.
Go to Auto Zone and buy a new one for around $20.00. Than remove the right side (passenger-side)wheel.
Block it safely, than take off the plastic splash-guards. Than you can see what need to be done to install your new belt.
It is adjustable.
This is actualy an easy job.

I can breath now!!! You guys came through for me once again. Thanks a million!! I already found and purchased the belt at Auto zone and it was 14 bucks. I will get off early tomorrow and take a look. Hopefully i will have all the tools.

By the way that GSE Turbo was wording it. I thought it would be catastrophic if that belt would break. I dont want to break a timing belt again. Thanks again!!
