Common problems

Post by caprice »

What are the common problems with Daewoos, besides smashing valves and hard to find parts? I just bought a 2000 Leganza, 115,000 miles AT 2.2. Matience unknown. I haven't have a chance to drive it because it needs a radiator, and front crash parts. I am getting a transmission flush the day the radiator goes in because the fluid looks like used motor oil, it is not red at all. I am new here obviously, but I even read the FAQ 8) So I need to replace the Timing belt, tensioner and idler religiously every 30,000 miles  and change the oil regularly to ovoid sludge? And should I do anything other to cover the biggest problems? Daewoo are infamous for being a bad car apparently...

I am doing a bunch of matience/tune up on it before selling it to my friends sister. (belts, plugs, wires, thermostat, cap, hoses, coolant flush, AT flush, oil change, PVC valve, tires, body work, etc)

timing belt is the only thing i can think of. i dont know why woos have such a bad rep, if they are regularly maintained they last a LONG time. hell look at Bosnianlanos, he has over 200,000 miles on his lanos. i say thats pretty good.

Ok I put a new radiator in, and it drives OK, I think it was run a little with out coollant in it. The Transmission fluid is BROWN, but it shifts ok at far as I can tell, I am going to have a flush done on it. What kind of damage could have been done to motor and tranny because of the over heating? There was less than a pint left in the old radiator (the water was oarge rush color and silty), but the crack was at the top of the radiator. The old radiator was plastic, and the used replacement I picked up is metal. :o It is not leaking that I know of now.

well depending on how badly it over heated you could have warped or cracked the head or cracked the block, is it smoking at all??? one thing i for got the will go wrong with the lanos is the thermostat has a tendancy to crack since its a plastic housing, but you can get a metal one if you want.
