Engine/Transaxle, transaxle/engine..The bolts, how many ?

Post by Spider »

Hi,

This engine is ready to come out.
But its not out yet!

Anyone know how many bolts are there for the transaxle to engine. ? (not counting the three torque converter bolts)
Six have been removed.
Can't find any more.
Put a little lift pressure on it (engine) and the front side is lose from the transaxle but the rear (firewall side) seems tight.
Haven't tried much more than that as daylight ran out and I had to stop.
Now I can't sleep waiting for the morning to come :)

I have the center of the transaxle (it's automatic) supported by a floor jack (with a piece of wood under it) on the left side.

I also have a small bottle jack (with wood) on the right side near the transaxle "brace" where the right axle enters.
I wonder if this support is needed and thinking maybe causing the tightness I mentioned above on the engine/transaxle (firewall) side.

Any thoughts, comments or advice is always appreciated
Thanks

you need to get a pry bar and separate the two, you'll see that the engine goes into the transmission a lil bit, once you separate them it'll come up pretty easy.

Thanks Shaun,

In another hour the ice should melt off it.
And I will be using the required pry-bar.
please wish me well.

3 torque converter bolts? I had 6. Am I reading you wrong??

I had two bolts hiding by the oil pan. But I was on a Leganza. I did use a pry bar too.

Hey folks !

Shaun;

It gets cold here ! Were at 2500 feet, it's "High Desert"
We have had zero degrees so far this year and that has been the coldest yet.
But !... if it's zero at 3 am? it can be 60 by noon. :)

New;

Yes, for the Lanos, just three bolts hold the torque converter to the flexplate (flywheel?)
Six bolts for the engine to transmission.

All went well !

Ice melted and the engine is out !

I'm gonna take a couple days off of this project now and help my daughter and son-in-law move. They are moving to the beach !

This link should take you streight to a few photos my wife took this morning after me and my "crew" (2 dogs) pulled the engine out of my Lanos.

Its because they have a pop-up advertiser that advertises "singles-sites"
If you don't care for it ? right click the advertisment and "block" it.

My photos on the page are all "G" rated :)

thanks to everyone for your support and advice. !
