Getting a Lanos Sport and have a few questions

Post by ike66 »

Well i found a 2001 daewoo lanos sport fully loaded, with new intake, catback exhaust,17"rims and new tires and a few other thing inside and as long as i get the loan it gunna be mine. I was just wandering wheat all i should be aware of the could possibly go wrong. The caar has always used full synthetic oil and only has 31000 miles on it now. Just looking at these fourms i can see one of the main problems that happens is the timing belt braking so i figure ill do what the manufacturer reccomends and replace it at 60000, but is this a hard job to do or would i have to take it to a shop somewhere? Also if theres any other common problems that can be prevented just let me know thanks.

id say change the timing belt befor you hit 50k miles. its not that hard to change the timing belt, if your mechanicly inclined you should be able to do it your self. a shop will prolly rape you as far as how much they would charge to change the belt. the lanoses are fairly reliable cars, how much do they waht for it? is it an auto or manual tranny?

Its a manual ..ill never drive an automatic lol i just dont like them...im getting it for 5000 with taxes and its in mint condition. Already has a new headunit and speakers too i just need to get an amp and some subs. Also im not sure if it has ABS or not did the 2001s come with that feature? Also one thing that was werid was when i was looking it over the dome ligth didnt work and the check engine light was on...i asked the guy about it and he said that its never done that before and he would plug it into something and run some tests to see why it came one...it turns out that it was just from a loss of power. And the dome lightbulb was just burnt out. The guy im purchasing it from owns an auto parts store so i guess thats why he has all the stuff to check the light and stuff.

Thanks for the help and if you guys know of any more common problems i could prevent happening just post them up.

hope you enjoy the lanos, just keep on top of your belts and the car will last forever.
i work at a dealership that sold daewoo and i've been meaning to bolt this bulletin from the manufacturer. it said that the prblem si not in the belt itself but the quiality of the seals that keep the belt dry. the seal around the waterpump leaks letting water gather at the bottom of the timing cover. some of the techs here just drill two holes at the bottom of the cover to let water run out.
at any ratejust keep the belt clean and dry and it will last longer.
