Battery is dead - but not (2000 Nubira)

I drove home from work yesterday - completely normal operation. I went to start the engine (2000 Nubi auto) and it acts like the battery is completely dead. I got maybe half a revolution of the engine and nothing more. I Hooked up jumper cables from the other car and turn the key - same thing. I let it sit and charge for a few minutes - same thing. Then I removed the Nubi battery altogether and hooked the jumper cables to the Nubi's battery cables - same thing.

As I said before, the last drive (12 hours earlier) was completely normal, lights and everything worked fine. I am at a loss as to what to check next. Grounds just don't go bad instantly but are on the list of things to check anyway. Starters CAN go bad pretty quickly but it would still be strage for it to go like this. Any ideas from longer-term owners?

try another battery. sounds like a bad cell, not getting a full charge. also your not gonna be able to start a car by hooking up the jumpers to the cables, it needs a cell to build up charge.

you can start a car with jumpers (ive done it, but not on the woo) but it sounds like your connection at the starter is bad or you have a bad starter motor.

My car wouldn't start with jumper cables and a bad battery... I wasn't getting enough juice to be able to turn over... I let the thing charge and still got nothin so i had to buy a new battery (starts fine now)... if the battery is bad, even with jumper cables it may not always start...

Well, I "fixed" the problem yesterday. Fixed is in quotes because I did nothing, really.

I looked at a few things and for kicks I pulled the plugs to see if the engine would spin with them out (it did). I reinstalled them, put the ign and inj fuses back in (pulled them before I spun the engine) and it fired instantly. I did clean the battery terminals and cables out of habit but they did not look bad. That must have been it though. The cable ends have very little contact area so any corrosion at all will probably give trouble.

OEM battry terminals in our cars are so weak... try to get something better.
