check engine light flash for a while, Why?

Post by greatiliad »

yesterday, when I drive on the high-way, about 60 mile/h
the car runs smooth at that time after I rebuild the head.
Suddenly, the check engine light comes on and began to flash.
I was scared, and stopped the car on the road side.
I checked every thing, but it looked nothing wrong.
Then I started my car again, everything was ok, and I drove it home.
Today, the car also looks ok, except the stupid air-bag light

Usually, I was told that if the check engine light begins to flash, it means something serious
but I could not find what happend yesterday.

Was the car studdering at all while the check engine light was flashing? If so, it's your spark plugs and wires. I had that problem. Some hesitation from the engine, and my cel flashed a few times, and then just turned on.

I know what you said, but I don't think so.
My ignition coil failed before, so , I know the feeling of missfire. Usually, if one cylinder misfire, you can feel the vibration , but at that time, the car run smoothly.

the ECU has recorded the DTC that was developed during the CEL so get it scaned and get the code... this is the only way to know whats wrong or what went wrong at that moment.

Sounds to me like you've developed the same problem my Woo has. At high speeds the check engine light will flash at me reporting a misfire. However, there is no feeling of a misfire at all. The car continues to run just fine with no aparent problems at all other than the flashing light (which then just stays on). I have yet to solve this problem in my Lanos, but if you happen to find out what is going on with yours, please let me know so I can see if I have the same problem.

Things I tried to fix mine:

Replaced ignition coil
Replaced ignition wires
Replaced spark plugs
Replaced battery (didn't think that would fix it but it needed to be done)
Cleaned up the ground wires as best I could
Cleaned the fuel injectors

Still haven't tracked down the problem... more or less gave up on it until I get my PDA hooked to my computer for live data feeds.

moin,

long talk, short sense. drive to a dealer and he should read your fault recorder out. like mamdouh write. the rest what you can do is only a waste of time in this case.

I guess I had done most you mentioned.
I rebuilt the engine due to timing failed. replace all spark plug and clean injector.
my ignition coil failed 3 month ago after a storm, maybe a thunder hit it

If I go to dealer, probably I will pay 70$. at least now, money is a big issue for me and I am not going to do that.

alot of auto parts stores will do a code scan for you for free, if its not free it will be cheaper than $70. what part of the world are you from?

I already went to autozone.
They only have basic equipment, and a girl came out to help me. She just told me there was a error code for air bag, nothing else.

I feel she knows nothing more than me, so I just left quitely.
Usually, I think these free check will not help too much.

yes they will help. they have a OBD2 code scanner there. the girl was B/S'ing you. go to another autozone and they can scan it for you. if they say they can scan a daewoo tell them its a regular OBD2 port and that YES they can, trust me its not worth paying $70 for some thing that you can get the EXACT same thing for free. save your money to fix what ever the problem is

my lanos did the same thing for years until its death. i kept hearing something about a possible dirty O2 sensor. but i never got around to checking it. it only came on after goin about 60mph and then stayed on for a couple of days then went out then would come back on once i went over 60mph again. from what i could tell my car lost no power and nothing was wrong. i even took it to autozone while the cel was goin off and no codes came up. not sure what happened.

my check engine light came on on last sunday when I was on high way.
I did not feel any long term misfire.
but after I re-started the car, the check engine light stay on.
I go to shop to read the code , it is P0301: cylinder 1 misfire.
I just want to know, which cylinder is cylinder 1???

I try to reinstall the spark plug first.

Mine always reports the same code with the same kind of behavior. I think it's a computer glitch (but I could and probably am mistaken).

I fix this problem
due to something wrong about the crankpulley or crank speed sensor
I took pulley off, clean the senser, and reinstall the pulley
the check enging light never flashes again
