Tips for holding Crankshaft Pulley required

Post by j62k »

Hi does anyone have any tips for holding the crankshaft pulley still to loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt - without dismantling ie removing oil pan and preferably without special tools.

Thanks

The only way I was able to get the crankshaft pulley off my woo was using an air ratchet. I've heard of other methods, but that's the only one I was willing to try and had work. :)

I know some people tried wedging a wrench attached to the pulley to the bolt in the suspension and turned the starter crank over once to try and break it free... Personally... I wouldn't do that method.

When I tried to do mine by hand, I wrenched on that thing for about 45 minutes to an hour just trying to break it free... no dice. Once I got the air ratchet under there it took all of a half a second.

You don't know anyone with an air ratchet and compressor you might be able get to help you?

i just did the suspension/start engine method during my timing belt job on Friday... works like magic.

you coud put the car in ger, make a friend step on the brakes and use the wrench that you use when taking off wheel bolts but i am not sure if this will work as expected... i am still a big fan of the suspension/start engine method.
