How to change the water pump in lanos 1.6

Post by mrbnew »

Alright, I replaced my timing belt 10k ago and didn't replace the water pump. Yeah, guess what? Now its leaking soooo... How do you get that sucker out of there? There is a black metal cover inbetween the water pump and the water pump gear. Do I have to take everything off the front of the motor to get the cover off and then slide the pump out?

never done it before but seems like what you mentioned is how it is done... thats why it is recommended to do it when you replace the timing belt.

I ended up doing it all over again twice, I am getting pretty good at changing the timing belt! The first time I was one tooth off even after checking it twice by turning the crank by hand to make sure they lined up. Took 2.5 hours the second time ( my actual third time ).

What a pain, now I have a check engine light on that I have to go get scanned... Runs good but after a while of driving it surges a little bit and the check engine light comes on and then drives fine.

On a good note, I bought a tool that is used for ford diesel applications, a straight 41.5mm flat wrench. I took .5mm off it with the grinder, bent the handle at 45 degrees and then cut all but about 3 inches off the handle. Adjusts the water pump perfectly. The only thing that is a pain now is the water pump screw behind the power steering pump, I must have spent 45 minutes on that screw alone.
