Hey everyone. Just last night I was driving out to dinner and I went to reverse at the car park and got this awful grind trying to go into reverse. It refused to stop and i had to basically force it into reverse (otherwise i would roll down the hill) and since then when I put the clutch pedal in i hear a funny almost rattling noise coming from under the hood. Also it has been a bit harder to shift between gears. It is the original clutch for the car (done 168000kms). Do you guys think it's dying? Do you have to take the whole engine out to change the clutch? Any help would be greatly appreciated
P.S: When the car is cold I can shift into reverse without a problem. But once I drive around the block it makes the awful grinding noise going into reverse.
Did my clutch just bite the dust?

it sounds like the clutch is gone... you only need to get the tranny off the car to do the job.

All fixed!
I was looking at my pedals today and noticed that the clutch pedal was bout 5cm lower down than normal. To cut a long story short - the clutch cable had become too loose as the plastic locking nut thingy on the adjuster mechanism had slipped. So i tightened it again and put another metal nut behind it to make sure it doesnt slip again. So basically the clutch wasnt disengaging enough, hence the clashing of gears and funny noise caused by the clutch getting hot.
Anyone with similar clashing problems should check to make sure they're clutch is correctly adjusted and releases properly. This will only work for the cable clutch models of course.
