Timing belt replacement list?

Post by SickDrift »

Ive searched the past posts for this info and cant find it.

All I need is a list of necessary parts to purchase when replacing the timing belt.

Thanks in advance.

Do you feel the water pump should be replaced even though the vehicle only has 32,000mi on it?

i'd put the tensioner in the mandatory section... i have seen many engines blow their heads off because of bad tensioners as well as idler pulleys, actually the only optional part in what Auda said is the water pump.

this is the set you should be getting:

it's not in bad shape... not at all! if you want to figure risks... is turboing a non-factory car worth it? yes...

yes indeed as long as you are keeping it in the safe rang of boost but i wont go 20 psi on stock internals to get the thrill and let my engine blow.

the point here is that the tensioner and idling pullys are not that accessable as you know so you can't check them frequently to build up enough confedence that they are OK to be used... not to mention that you already tore down the engine for the timing belt and you are one bolt away from replacing it so why waste the chance?

i replace my timing belt every 40,000 kms but i replace the tensioner every 80,000 kms just for beeing safe... it is better to pay 165 LE (30 USd) on a tensioner than paying 1000 LE (175.30 USD) on a new engine head... not to mention the frustration and time consumption during the job.

if money was no object i'd throw in a water pump at every timing belt, replace tensioner with every belt and replace oil pump every 2 timing belts replacmets but unfortunatly money IS and object :(

cars love to have new parts installed... every part gets older by the mile and the line between fine and faulty is pretty thin so it is bettr to replace parts while you are at it rather than beeing forced to do so because of an engine failure at some deserted highway at 3:00 AM in a really cold night.

my 2 cents
