sub box q?

Post by DomWoo »

im giong to build a box for my old 10" subs to stick in the acura, i dont want to spend alot of money on this box so im making it all out of wood instead of fiberglass.

my question is.... do i have to make the box seperated for each sub or can i have both subs in a sigle open box box?

use mfd for the materialand a general amount of space is about 1 to 1.5 cubic feet of space for each sub. But to answer the main question, it would be ideal to seperate the subs so they each had there own compartment.

two in one isn't a problem.... separate is better in some cases.... each subwoofer reacts differently in different box designs...... and I would agree that 1 to 1.5 cubic feet is about right.

I have all kinds of sub box modeling programs..... pm me all the specifications ( stuff like impedance, Qms,Qts,Vas..... ) and I will plot it into my program for ideal size.

Do you want a ported box or a sealed box?

ported boxes will have more punch in the area around 80hz but they will typically have less at 40hz.

ported boxes also require better control over the frequency you cross over your subwoofer at (most amps will have a LPF -->low pass filter )... if your amp doesn't have a filter you will need to add a "passive crossover coil"

I can give you designs for pretty much anything.... ported, sealed, bandpass, isobaric... and many others.

I personally use sealed boxes 90% of the time..... sure they loose a little at the resonant frequency ( typically 80hz) but they are simpler to make, there is no port sounds (often they whistle at certain frequency) and you can usually overpower the subs without damaging them.
