angled exhaust

Post by kinkyllama »

How exactly would i go about doing this? I love those full 3-4" exhaust on turbo'd cars... they look beatiful and sound amazing. So i wanna go with that look with my car. Im probably doing a 3" exhaust maybe a little bigger depending on the muffler i use. The only way i can think that they do angled exhaust are having the exhaust go under the back axle or having a really restrictive bend of some sort. Ideas?

Some cars im talking about that have them are 240sx, suburus, some integras, DSMs.. all aftermarket though

I went to the street races Saturday night and I saw an old Datsun Z with an angled muffler. It does look really nice. The exhaust piping right before the muffler did go under the axle and it was extremely low to the ground. Prolly makes some good sparks every once in a while.

Mines angled like the one in the picture. It points up and out to the left. Its a real unique look and not something done on the Lanos. Alot here in Australia have the 4 inch dump tip that points down. The cannon (especially a drift mounted one like that) is a unique look on Woo's.

There is heaps of room to have it angle mounted. You just need a couple of really good/imaginative mandrel bends so you dont inhibit the flow too much. Take it to a shop, pick out your muffler and where you want to put it - then say "pipe it using mandrels" and let them worry about logistics :) There is enough room though - not sure on the 3 inch pipe but there'd be enough for 2.5 inch for sure.

The bend still goes over the rear axle. You could mount it real close to the heat shield on the spare tyre well and angle it out to the left.

drift guys originally did it so it blew the smoke out to the side, which means on fwd and 4wd it serves no purpose. I have a friend who has a 600hp show car (ute). His exhaust is for burnouts. Its twin 3' (no cannons, a full 3' system) side pipes that are just before the tyres.

It's not about the purpose, it's about looks!! Would you rather have an exhaust pointing down or up (even if it serves no purpose)?

Even the exhaust on the WRX is as drastic as i want it.. some of them are like... WOAH! they show some of the side of the big ass muffler along with it behing angled up.

I figured it'd be easyier to do it by going under the axel... not really a big deal as you cant bottom that part out very easy. The only scary part would but running over debris on the road. But eventually ill have a body kit with a front airdam/splitter dragging the front nearly to the ground anyways. Plus i dont think ive ever ran over something that would cause damage no matter how low the car
