Fuel gauge problems

Post by chrisdimassi »

Fuel pump module has been replaced as well as the sending unit. The float is not getting caught on anything inside the tank, so what else could cause this?
It's occured twice that after it's repaired, it sticks on F and all of a sudden drops to E and won't move.
Also, does the dash gauge have microprocessors on the Lanos?

I'm not a mechanic

Jorge, can you tell me what the ECU is?
Also, I thought the sending unit went straight to the heating coil behind the dash gauge. But, Mohammad, you are saying that there are wires between the sending unit and dash gauge?

ECU is the Engine Control Unit... it is the brains of the engine and tranny, it is also known as ECM or PCM.

i suppose their is a connection between the sending unit and the gauge itself to send how much fuel is their in the tank but i am not sure if it is a direct link or does it go through the ECU first.

Thanks for the info, I'll call the mechanic monday. I've been in so many times for this, I practically know everyone at the dealership by name. :D

Repairs at dealerships are an arm and a leg, no argument there.
But as far as dealerships go, this one has been very fair.
And for the trickier maintenance/repairs, I trust only my dealership's mechanic for proficiency.
I think this is just a really strange problem that's occuring because he said none of the other daewoos have done this.

I'm concerned even more because there is still a gasoline smell in the car, it should have evaporated by now (been three days since the last repair attempt). So I'm thinking something's come loose somewhere. The gasoline smell is very fresh, not like a residual smell.
