Boring out Composite intake manifold on the aveo.

Post by Brian5475E »

I was reading on how mechanics are repairing composite intakes now with fast acting epoxy. seems to work real well. Gm also had a fix for a problem with a egr tube going to the composite manifold on a camero. it was melting. All they did was yank the old section out, installed a metal sleve and epoxied it in place. So I'm thinking of doing this for the Aveo except for where the TB bolts on the intake.

Why not simply fabricate or purchase a new intake?

Seems like alot of hassle for something that might not even work or show power gains.

because I can do this alot cheaper. I've priced custom intake manifolds, best price I got was $600. plus if I go custom and lose the Vgis I will lose all bottom end

$600 USD ??

Hmmm.... perhaps I should sell one :D

The gains on a properly tuned intake would be far greater than the losses on the lower end.

I can't remember where I was looking but a company showed dyno graphs with a 16hp gain on the European 1.6L ECOTEC (aka your engine)

They probably tune it around 4500RPM to 6000RPM so you gain a pile of top end.

You would probably loose 2-3 hp in the lower rpm band and perhaps as much as 6hp in the mid rpm levels but your car would be significantly faster.

If I get some time (which is doubtfull) I will see if I can dig up the site information for you.

Don't forget that this engine made nearly 150bhp from stock before they moved it back down to make it more driveable, more fuel efficent and create less emissions.

i had a 12 HP gain at the fly, with a even small TB (60mm) than the standard one wich is 64mm, and its not mapped yet.
