Speeding ticket, 120+

Post by kinkyllama »

Didnt wanna hijack the other post so im making this one. Ill copy and past some info for anyone that didnt read it in the other post and add some.

I have an escort 8500plus. He didnt clock me.. the cop just followed behind me. It was a motorcyle and he had his lights off.. i didnt see him at all and i looked. Im always lookin for cops.

Yeah i was lucky i wasnt arrested. It was wayyy past curphew to for me.. especialy my friend in the car. Actually im almost 100% positive the tickets only civil too.. which means i should be able to keep my license but im not sure how the civil court will work w/ a 120+ ticket considering its criminal at 86+. First ticket i ever got (and only) was criminal and our lawyer said id probabyl lose my license for a few years... i just ended up taking drivers school and got it off my record.

The speed limit on the highway was 65mph. Yes i know about arguing the following thing.. thats what we were gonna do for my last ticket but they let me off so easy that we didnt bother. If they try to take my license i will definitly fight it... we have our own lawyer that he could probably use as a business right off thats among the best so i could probably get outa murder if i wanted to 8)

One thing i really wanna know.. the cop gave me a civil ticket (instead of criminal) now.. is that official or can the court change that into a criminal? cuz i dont think you can lose your license over just civil

Look up your state law on how cops must make them selfs visable. I know in California I will win the challenge, but then again speeding tickets are handled differently here as I believe they are all civil unless you get in an accident that kills someone then depending on what happen it may become crimal.

Maybe thats the real reason he only made it civil then.. cuz he knows i wont get punished enough to even bother standing up against it

all forms of radar detectors here are illegal... if you get caught with one on board then you will have issues with the NSA  ... for me; better to have a tickect that having this kinda trouble.

Here they are totally legal, you just can't have a radar jammer or any type of device that modifies or blocks the radar signal going towards your car.

Traffic police just piss my off, sry.

He did not use his radar gun at all? I would fight it unless he can prove that he is some math wizard that can calculate distances down to a few inches by eyesight alone, in the dark. However, check with you local laws and YMMV and all that.

a study has proven the myth "going so fast the radar wont get you" was proven true on tv the other night. Only of speeds in excess of 170MPH would a camera not go off. now, 170MPH in KMH for the aussies here is roughly 275 kilometers per hour.

I've heard that Arizona police are allowed by state to ticket you on "guestimated" speed. I know on the Lancer boards a couple times i've seen that people have been pulled over by "specialized" motorcycle cops that passed a course in visual clocking. So even though it's not accurate and never will ... arizona cops are allowed doing it... and he could have timed you with vascar or a method in which he maintains speeds and an approximate distance behind you... which will still hold up in court... since it's a civil case.. i'd pay your fine, and not do it again.

As for cops having to be able to be seen... True they do, but just because you didn't see them doesn't mean they couldn't be seen, he could simply say you hadn't looked in your rear-view mirror or side mirrors, thats your driving style... Not his fault.... I mean you're saying to drive on the road he has to have his lights on? No they don't, as long as they catch you speeding they only need the lights to pull you over.

if you can afford to buy a car that goes at that speed then you have no problem paying the ticket.

as fot he cop riding with no lights on... next time you suspect that a cop is following you in the dark just slam the brakes as hard as you can... that will make him think twice before doing it again.

I wouldn't mess with cops... they might pull you over for aggressive braking or something lol.

Well.... sorry to hear about the ticket....

So the silver lining is that you can turn your car into an non-street legal race vehicle and take it out on autocross tracks and rally racing!!!!

I've been caught doing 160km/h (100mph) in an 80km/h (50mph) zone but the cops only wrote me up for 40km/h over the limit so that they didn't have to go to court. :D
( I'm very glad they were lazy cops )

My worst one would have been 215km/h in a 30km/h zone..... anything over 40Km/h lands you in criminal court..... I probably would have spent some time in jail for doing 185km/h over the limit had I been caught ( roughly 115MPH over the speed limit )

I knew a guy that got caught doing 80km/h over the limit and they took away his license for 3 years and sentanced him to two years probation.

There was another guy that I know of that got caught doing 110km/h over the limit in his corvette... they sentanced him to 6 months in jail and took away his license for life.

If they were going to charge you criminally you would have been picked up in a police car and booked at the local police station.... your car would have been towed to the nearest impound lot.

So..... given you just got a ticket and nothing else.... your pretty lucky.

Yeah im pretty sure the reason he gave me civil is cuz he didnt wanna arrest me. Im so glad i didnt have to through that again... last time i got caught speeding the cops lyied about where they followed behind me to see how fast i was goin (if they told the truth it wouldnt ahve been criminal cuz i had just gotten in a higher speed limit when i gunned it), illegally searched the car, used my cell phone w/o my permission, made fun of my hair and the clothing i wore.... then took me to jail. It sucked.

Anyways does anyone know if the court can change it from a civil offense to a criminal? or does anyone know about civil traffic court? I'm guessing they cant take your license away or anything like that.

Last night i was goin down the freeway (doing the speed limit) and i started to switch lanes and out of NOWHERE a cop flys by me honking at about 125mph.. that pissed me off.. he didnt have his flashing lights on, just his driving lights.. and he was traveling so fast that by the time i looked in my blind spot and mirror then started switching lanes he had already came over a hill and started to pass me.

No... if i end up losing my license then i cant race... at least with SCCA, NASA, or proautosports (a really good local org.). Which is kinda strange since proautosports has 14year old drivers..

Yeah im glad i just got a ticket.. but personally this is going to hurt me so much. My insurence was already $250 a month.. and they dont even know im a driver. See when i bought my car i only had 85% of the money so my parents paid the rest and got it in there name... and when they got insurence on it they never asked if there were any other drivers than my Dad. When i turn 18 though im getting it in my name and it shoudl be over 300 a month w/o anything on my record.

My insurance I believe is $600 every 6 months and I am 21 years old. I said to my mom that I am willing to pay for my own car insurance, but she said that my dad and her willl pay it 50/50. Why don't ask as I have no idea why.

KnightWalace if that is true in Arizona then I wil be carefull in that state. I know in California cops must have their driving lights on. But like in Arizona, California cops can stay at a certain speed and see how much distance you are putting between him or her and then make a "math" call and say that you where speeding. I have been pulled over once by this method and got off the hook which was extremely lucky.
