Holy cow!!
That is just stupid to quote that much.
I'd get a few other quotes at other shops.
Don't always go with the first shop you ask.

Keep in mind he is in Hawaii and everything over there is much more expensive than normal. Also the fact that there are very few places that know how to work on a Daewoo. They know that the Daewoo Owners can't just drive somewhere else to get it fixed...

A head gasket? How hard can it be vs. any other car other than torque specs?

Most shops will use any excuse possible to inflate the price if they know you're stuck and can't go anywhere else. Just another reason why I hate taking my car in for work.

Yea that makes sense. That sucks, I think that may be one I would try to brave myself - doesn't seem like it would be too hard although I don't really know.

the job itself is not that hard but you need lots of tools and time... the intake removal is the most bitch process.

Chris from daewootech yahoo group did it himself and he posted what he did on some 6 or 7 posts on the group... gio their and make a search and read what he did.

he also took lots of pics during the process and i got them... if you want them give me your e mail and i will send them over.
