Fuel Injector Cleaning

My car is all jittery at red lights. I attribute the problem to dirty fuel injectors. I tried those cleaning agents you put in your gas but I don't think pure acid would do the trick with all the crud I have.

I want to take out my fuel rail and clean all the injectors as well as the fuel rail.

Being a beginning/intermediate mechanic, how much work would it be to take out my fuel rail (how many bolts, pins, etc...) and how big of a chance is there for me to f*ck up something fierce?

P.S. I'm assuming that all the injectors are attached to the fuel rail and come out as a whole when the fuel rail is detached...am i wrong?

Fuel injectors are very risky, was told that if not cleaned out properly that it would burn out your sensors, I thinkl he said the oxygen sensor. He suggested bringing to a professional mechanic.

TO be very honest, it is not that hard to remove the fuel rail, but you have to be very careful, you should releve the pressure off of the line, you can do this by removing the fuse for the fuel pump and then start your car and then wait till it runs out of gas, only about 10 seconds, , then keep trying to trun it over until it won't start. Then you remove the harness for the injectors, make sure you mark them to know which one is which. Then all you have to do is remove the two ( i think it is two ) bolts/ or nuts that hold down the fuel rail. Amm, there will be some o rings that go around the injectors, you can't loose these or you will be s o l becuase it is what seals the connection between the rail and the injectors. Amm, what you could do is buy some carbureator cleaner, the spray, and use that to cleanm the inejctors and the rail. Then just put everything back, it should only take about 1 hr, at most. Be very careful when you take off the lines to and from rail, both the line coming from the filter, and the return line to the tank. If you tear these , you will have to replace them as well, you should check them anyways to make sure they are good, but they should be.. But yeah, that isbasically it, If you need anyhting else, just p m me, I will be more than willing to help

I took my fuel rail and injectors out and it's very simple just as richardmatalon states. However I would suggest taking your injectors to a professional. There are special machines that they use to clean them out and test the flow and spray patterns.

Also, I have a polished fuel rail and 4 just cleaned injectors for sale. Only hitch is that the fuel rail has a 6AN fitting on the end of it for my custom FPR setup. This is a very trick set up that you can do for very little money.

Ok guys, thanks. I don't think I'm up to the challenge of doing it myself if it's that easy to screw up and "burn my sensors out". I'll just take it out and give it to a professional.

BTW: What kind of shop would have a fuel injector cleaner?

The proper way to clean the injectors is by means of ultrasounds...something similar in theory when you have your teeth cleaned by the sadist, that is, the dentist

You should inquire with your mechanic. During the cleanup they will also be balanced too, so they spray precisely the same amount of fuel.
