leganza Camshaft Sensor replacement

Post by azlanos »

2002 leganza 2.2L

the check engine light came on , shows camshaft sensor low input voltage, drove the car fine but sometimes when i give it gas it wouldnt want to go then picks up, i parked let it idle for a minute then it blogged and died,

400 miles since new timing belt water pump change,

now is the camshaft sensor easy to change?, dont tell me i need to take off the belt and camshaft gears off to get to that sensor.

it can be hard to do unless you are very pacient and have a good amount of mechanical skill.

the dealer would tell you that the whole front end has to come off but that's not really the case.

you need a set of DEEP 1/4' drive female torx sockets and a rachet. you'll need to remove the steel retainer cover that sits above the engine mount in the middle of the timing cover. it is a 10mm bolt head. you may need the threee upper timing cover retaining clips off as well, i don't remember. they are on the perimiter of the cover. the spark plug cover needs to come off as well. with the covers off you sould be able to see the cam sensor and probably the bolt holding it on. if I'm not mistake the bolt hole in the sensor is slotted so you only have to lossen the bolt and it will pull out from the top. if possible, leave the sensor plugged in so you have something to hold onto. then just everything in reverse.

cheers,
Garrett

i just changed the cam sensor, i got a E8 torx socket, took 20 minutes for the whole job, thanks for all your help.
its was a good idea to leave the sensor plugged so it doesnt fall ,
