Hi folks,
I'm using the GM-Daewoo coil packs from a 2000 car on mt Toyota 20V 4ag.
Does anyone know what kind of dwell (in ms) I should be using to control these guys for wasted spark? Compression ratio is 11:1.
thanks!

Re: Dwell time for GM-Daewoo coils
Hey there, a 4age huh? I have not seen one of these in person in a long while. Whats it in a rwd corolla or starlet?
Anyways to answer your question though I think your asking tne wrong crowd but dwell time on a GM DIS is 0.2-0.25ms. This is NOT adjustable. The pcm sets dwell based on two key figures:
air intake temperature
knock sensor readings
crank position provides TDC. Under normal conditions (IAT reading in specified range, no knock detected) the set value to maintain quality idle is .25ms.
Im guessing you are using some aftermarket engine management which allows tweeking of all these perimeters. I guess the correct question should be what is the correct dwell for the Toyota 4age? I doubt the dwell for your engine is outside the range of GM coils, and if it is, I cannot really tell you if they will provide good quality spark outside their range. Im sure zome nissan or toyota forums can be more helpful. Ive seen tons of gm DIS on sr20s and 1.6 rollas etc...

Re: Dwell time for GM-Daewoo coils
Trey05Woo.... don't you mean 2.0ms to 2.5ms ( as opposed to 0.2-0.25ms ) ?
Welcome to the forum by the way....
Cranking dwell should be around 5ms and say 0.7 for minimum discharge
I'd say you should start at 2.5ms for ignition dwell during running... unless you can measure spark output off the coils you probably shouldn't go too far off that number.
You can push it higher... to say 3.0ms or even 3.5ms...... but the coils will get hot and these Daewoo Coils are not the greatest in my opinion.
So if you do move off 2.5ms you need to monitor the heat of the coil pack.... not sure exactly how hot it can get.... it depends on how you mount it as the integrated driver in the back of the coil needs to disipate heat.
Personally I wouldn't have gone with the integrated driver/coil that is found in a Daewoo Coil pack.... I would have bought a cheap MSD Neon coil and dropped in a couple of VB921 coil drivers.
Hopefully that helps....

Re: Dwell time for GM-Daewoo coils
yea sorry about that. supposed to read .2-2.5ms. at .25 you WONT have good quality idle. rather no idle at all looool.
anyways those figures are the minimum/maximum the pcm will set depending on the information it is receiving. but 2.5ms is the dwell for ALL gm dis 4 or 6 cyl.
