Head Gasket Question
My question is the 1.6L DOHC engine(A16DMS)cylider head gasket fits to Daewoo Lanos 1.5L SOHC engine(A15SMS)???
I need a multi-layer gasket for 1.5L, where can I buy it?

Re: Head Gasket Question
just look at this problem this way: 1.5 uses 1.5 gasket and 1.6 uses a 1.6 gasket
so my answer is no

Re: Head Gasket Question

Re: Head Gasket Question
The block of the 1.5L SOHC, 1.5L DOHC, 1.6L SOHC, 1.6L DOHC are the same.... so it is possible with respect to fitment.
I can't say 100% that the 1.6DOHC gasket will work on the 1.5L SOHC..... but the 1.6L SOHC will work on the 1.5 SOHC.
The 1.6L SOHC engine was in the late eighties early nineties Pontiac Lemans.... and there is an MLS gasket available.
As well... the Lemans ( made in Korea by Daewoo for GM ) 1.6L SOHC parts are easy to find.... you should be able to go to your local parts supplier and they may even have stock.

Re: Head Gasket Question
Chris is right, it's the same as putting a Nubi 16v head on the Sunbird 8v block.
I have Cometic MLS head gaskets for the 1.6 starting at $108.00 plus shipping.

Re: Head Gasket Question
As said similar thing on big blocks 8vs,
right now my 16v has a 8v gasket, just had to made some small water holes in it, just need to match the two and see whats missing.

Re: Head Gasket Question
few years back i was considering a head swap for my 1.5 SOHC and use a 1.6 DOHC head... head gasket comparison showed that gaskets are not compatible so the heads are not swappable

Re: Head Gasket Question
Like I said, I wasn't 100% sure about the DOHC compatibility but I can say for sure that the SOHC 1.5/1.6 are compatible.
Odds are the DOHC gasket isn't far off as the block feeds are in exactly the same place on the DOHC and SOHC.
So a DOHC might not seem to be immediatly compatible but with a bit of work with a dremel tool it should be possible to make it function on a SOHC.
Really what is the point.... there are gaskets for both 1.5/1.6 8V and 1.5/1.6 16V so why try and make a DOHC work on a SOHC or vise versa.

Re: Head Gasket Question
Mmamdouh? what the?
you can use a 16v head on a 8v block. Just need everything else, tensioners, pullies, etc.

then why did the head gasket test fail??Efrain A. wrote:Mmamdouh? what the?

i was considering that upgrade long time ago and it stopped due to the head gasket comparison failure... i recon i'll have to do that test once again and document it with pics as well
one more thing... i also thought of boring my block and use the pistons from the 1.6 engine... i don't remember who told me that but i was told that the block on the 1.5SOHC is too small and boring it out will make it weak specially in the area in between the cylinders... this means that the block of the 1.6 is a bit bigger and that would explain the head gasket difference
i would like to be wrong on this one as it will give me an opportunity for a nice upgrade... i will try to go to the local car parts shop with my cam and do another head gasket test to get a bullet proof confirmation about this... wish me - and all the SOHC owners - luck

Re: Head Gasket Question
I put a 1.5L head on a 1.6L block and everything fit just fine.... just used all the 1.5L components on the 1.6L block.
