The story so far:
Picked it up tonight. New one on the right obviously
There's a scuff on the rear arch that wasnt there when i left my deposit. Raging. Ack well. Apart from a lot of bolts and stuff being rounded, there's not much that's too bad on it. Few bits and pieces need tidied up.
And remember the engine i was talking about that had so little miles on it? Yeah there's oil pishing out the bottom end, so far so that it's sprayed right the way back underneath to past the driveside door on a 3 door hatchback. ANd there was no water int he engine....
We were able to pull rad hoses off and practically no water came out. Glad i didnt decide to keep that engine in.

Was up in the shed until 2 am last night...
Me and 2 friends got stuck in and got a good bit done.
Car up on the ramps, with the 1.5 16v engine took out, both front struts and steering arms out, and the 2.0 8v ready to go in.
About 1:30 am. Car is back on the ground with the engine mounted, and the struts back in. We changed some parts with the struts, new wishbones, new droplink bars, new kyb shocks, 40mm springs, and changed the rubbers on the steering arms. Gonna need new disks and pads soon it seems.
Sitting a bit lower at the front now Need my GTE rear beam w/rear disks, 40mm springs and new kyb shocks in next. Then it's interiror out, greased up to prevent rust and GTE interior in.
Coming along nicely. Been a few problems with rusty bolts etc, but nothing serious as of yet thankfully.

Was up last night again, and we got the Rear Astra GTE Beam in and put the rear disks and calipersm new kyb shocks and 40mm springs in while we were there.
These are the best pics i could get without either getting in the way or having to go do something
Rear beam on the floor with new disks, calipers and rear handbrake cable. Ps. I didn't paint the fucking things green. They were green when i bought them. GOnna paint them black or red soon...
Fitted up and shocks going in.
All bolted up, KYB shocks in and 40mm springs in.
First pic when the car's off the ramp
Still looks pretty high for 40mm. Guess they havent bedded in yet. obviously havent but you know what i mean lol.
Car sits kinda level which was what i was going for. Just hope the back drops another 10mm while them springs get comfy.

Thanks m8. Got a few more bits and bobs done today, nothing special enough to post. Got a new oil sump gasket and some new oil. gonna take the sump off and clean it seeing as the engine hasnt been started in a few months.Rodd1s wrote:well, it seems the progress is getting on well...
keep up the good work!
Lol that's my friends Calibra. He's not turning it into a convertable but i'm not allowed to sy what he is doing with it xDdaewoomofo wrote:
whose the red neck that is turning a normal car into a convertable? (see the roof lying against the wall)
lol jk, coming along nice. id like rear disks
And the rear disks are nice. Aswell as seeing a benefit with braking, they fill out the wheels more and look a lot nicer than the old hubs. Even thoguh you wont see much of them with my Fanblades on. Really cant wait to get rid of the ugly green paint on them thoguh lol..

On the other hand..
Snapped a fuckin bolt in my block when i was tightening then sump up with the new gasket, was all shiney and clean too, all ready to go in for the win.. grrrrr

Slight update, bit happier!
This is gonna be a fairly heavy post in terms of pics so, bare with me.
Pics of sump stuff:
Took it off, cleaned around the lip where the gasket meets, and completely gutted out and cleaned the sump itself. Bit of a dent in the bottom but it doesnt seem to leak so, it's all good.
Then this happened
If i were to drill that bolt out, would the gasket and maybe a bit of instant gasket [like the glue stuff, made for gaskets] hold it to the sump fine and not leak?
As you can see from the pic, the bolt pretrudes a mill or two, should i bother drilling it out?
Ideally i should dirll it out and rethread it right? But if it will hold with the gasket+ the other like 9 bolts and some encouragement with instant gasket I'd FAR rather do that, wouldnt be as satisfying as gettng it sorted but it's a quicker fix, and ive more things to worry about atm than that.
After this though, as I said before got my rear disks in. Here's pics of the brake lines and behind the disks etc.
A little incentive to get the car finished
A little incentive to get the car rust proofed o_o
Motivational rust takes its toll and i figured, while I have my petrol tank out, I may aswell paint above where it goes, as i'm not taking this tank out. lol, probably ever. [Touch wood]
This was a bit of a test, just wanted to see how it'd turn out.
Happy with the results, I decided to move on. I'm gonna give it two or three coats in the main areas. Places like where the petrol tank goes only really need one in all honesty. It was pretty clean and solid before i painted it. Just giving it that extra bit of protection. Won't hurt like.
First coat dried, gonna give this part another one coat.
Thats as much as i got done this week anyway. Not much but getting the petrol tank out was a bastard because of the clamp holding the filler hose in place. I could not, for the love of me break the damn clamp. I couldnt undo the bolt as it was rusted away to fuck all, and the bit that inst supposed to spin, was spinning. Shoulda seen how happy I was when i finally snapped the head off the bolt
Other than that, every time i go up, these 2 boyo's are begging to go in like.
Exhaust and tank just sitting, waiting on me. Well, as far as i'm concerned they can wait lol. I need to underseal the whole underside before with can go in.

Well, got my tank in last week. Don't have any pics of it though, cause it was straight in and I had to leave, was getting late.
Then the next day I couldnt get up to the shed, so, two of my friends, while tey were there stuck my new fuel lines in and my exhaust on. :bananajump: So, cheers to them He also made a second mount on the rear of the car for the exhaust to give it a bit more rigidity, made from one of the towing eyes, cut off and welding on the other side It works though!
So, the car is literally ready to fire up. Gonna do it sometimes this or next week when I get sorted.
Here's a pic of how it sits atm.25/03/08
Can kinda see why the exhaust needs straighened here, 25/03/08
Also got my interior out yesterday, doing a bit of rust proofing in the inner arches. 25/03/08
Gonna stick my GTE interior in, well, GTE seats in, while i've everything out. Should be good fun to see it all come together
Can't wait to get it fired up
Another day spent inside the Nexia, putting the interior back in. Started my way from the back of the car.
Just a pic of the bootwell before i started the rear quarters, no rust thank god. 28/03/08.
Rear quarter, passenger side back on. 28/03/08
Rear quarter, driver's side back on. 28/03/08
Seats were ready to go in after this.
I grabbed them down off the shelf they were sitting on, took the dust covers off and realised it look like a dog had been lying on them for the past 3 months lol!
Hairy seats! 28/03/08
Look at the amount of hair came off them, it's madness 28/03/08
And that was the cleanest seat :P
Anyway, i did get the whole interior finished in one day, which was kind of an acomplishment, as i spent a day and a half taking trim off, trying not to break it. I only broke one piece, and it's a piece you'd be least likely to break... You know the rear quarter grey trim in the boot? The bit with the cover you take off to get at the rear lights? That bit :/ I was taking that light inspection cover off, and it broken the actual bit of trim somehow :applause:
But I got another piece and it's sorted now.
I didnt get any pics of the front gte buckets fitted, but here's the back ones,
28/03/08
28/03/08
All the seat belt clips are still intact on the seats.. was contimplating getting some rear astra seat belts and the seat belt clip things so I can make use of them :P
Will get some pics of the front in the next day.
Next on the list- Digi dash ^^

Been a while since I was up at the car.. Almost a month actually.
Havent touched it since It messed me about running on 3 cylinders. Havent had the time too. Too busy with school work. Art deadline's in 2 weeks and I've 2 fairly big paintings to finish. Then a statistics test a week after, and then a further 6 exams, 4 physics and 2 maths, in the month following that. So.. A pretty hectic few months for me, and a pretty neglected few months for my car.
My disk lok arrived about a week ago. Pretty happy with the quality of it Will definatly be used sooooooooo often once my car's brought back home.
Decided against the GET turbo manifold, as it's too pricey for me atm, and the t2 flange put me off a bit. Got this instead!
Ford RS Turbo Manifold. Gonna cut the exhaust flange off, get an 8v one and weld it on. Instant exhaust turbo manifold :P Got it cheap too off my friend.

Expecting some more bits and bobs from the UK to add to the turbo stuff
After a bit of messing about with the post office, the third time ive sent the money, i think i'll get them this time lol.
Aswell as that, i'm waiting on some pretty small goodies off ebay too, not turbo related, and ive bought this stuff outta work in the meantime.
Well, not all of it outta work. But most of it is.
Digital Caliper, Iroda 70w Butane soldering iron with different tips inc. blow torch, hot knife and a heat blower. Aswell as those, some automatic wire strippers, because i cant strip wires to save my life. And some small wire cutters, for fiddly bits behind the dash :P
A load of wire, Big thick red wire is 4AWG wire i'll be using for earths from the alternator, from the gearbox and from the battery to the chassis.
Black and red wire is 10amp wire i'll be using to go to a relay for my foglights. And the thing wire is crappy zip wire for my switches.
I've got my flashing led i'll be wiring up to my alarm, some switches with resistors so that the leds will light up at 12v, some spades i'll be using for the switches and the back of the dash, and finally a 10A relay for the foglights
Forgot to get a new multimeter. Gonna need it for figuring out what way this relay goes. I can't remember >< I've also a few spare switches I might wire up to stuff but I'm not sure what yet

Haha sweet. My car's got a bit of a high standard in women it seems.
Also seems it's a lesbian. Even better. Unfortunatly though, looks like my car's the butch one, with the bucket seats, exhaust, raw engine swap etcetc.
Haha, there's a 69 hiding in that plate aswell
That's actually quite cool though. to you for the pic ^^

Lol damn, it's dyslexic. Always a catch, was wondering how a daewoo could pull a Merc, turns out she's retarded... Makes sense.
DNA, National Dyslexic Association
Anyway, some new stuff's been going on.
Went up last night, and apart from nearly crying at a big scrap from like, the back of the drivers door to the rear arch, i got some bits and bobs done with a huge amount of help from my friend.
I pulled the dash out, stripped back some of that stupid sheathing on the wires, and got everything ready for figuring out.
My crotch and the digital dash wires, all figured out for what they do
The GAYEST relay in the world lmao. Found it when i was upside down with my head behind the dash looknig for a wire we passed through for the rev guage. Couldnt find it, what we did find was some 10 amp wire lol, for a rev guage It'll NEVER heat up anyway.
I'll post some more pics of what I got done. My friend figured out pretty much all the daewoo wiring and we wrote it all down for fututre reference [after doing 4 of them we caught on we should really write this shit down lol]. Dash is still in pieces, need some bulbs for my digi dash and then some... a LOT of tidying up to do behind the dash as there's wires everywhere ><
Other than that, bought 3 new goodies last night. An oil cooler for my turbo project, and some stuff for the car.
These electric mirror interior covers. These have no holes in them, they're from a GTE that had electric everything, so, i'm glad as my m3 style mirrors have no option for adjusting the mirror inside. You have to stick your thumb on the mirro and push it Ghetto or what?
This is what they're replacing,
And here they are fitted
And aswell as though, I got this, finally,
A GTE airbox My one atm is out of a calibra, and it sat too high, and hit the bonnet, so we vut the bottom of it off. But now my car sounds like it's choking when i floor it as there's no cover on the bottom of it. So this should stop that and look a bit more original
Once i get my bulbs i'll stick them all in, tidy up the wires and stick the dash back together. Can't wait! Will get some pics of my oil cooler soon aswell. And hopefully of my dual stage FPR and red injectors when they arrive.
