2.2L Turbo project starting soon
I just purchased a 2001 2.2L Leganza engine with 33K miles on it and a 1999 2.0L Nubira engine with 74K miles on it.
I pick them up this Friday and I want to start my turbo project right away.
I plan to turn the 2.2L engine into a very high horsepower drag engine.
It will probably end up in my 87 Subird GT turbo for now and eventually I will put it into a Lanos ( just need to find a really cheap one with a dead motor)
I will be using GsiTurbo for most of my part supply but there will also be some custom work.
I will keep everyone updated as I go along so that anyone who is interested in purchasing some of the custom parts can let me know if they are interested.
I'm thinking the largest and most expensive custom part will be a steel crankshaft.
My goal is still 625hp but I'd be happy with 300hp.
Who knows what this Daewoo block can handle.... but I still have a C20GET block if I damage the first one.
Hopefully it will be entertaining to see all the problems we come up against but it will certainly be the kind of engine that will get some attension for the Daewoo name.

Good luck with the proyect Chris!
i'll love to see that engine on a Lanos!
let me know what kind of turbo you will use... i might get cheap ones around here
I really feel happy for you!

I really like the idea of twin GT28RS "disco potato" turbos.
They are expensive ( $950 USD ) but they are awesome.
I'm guessing the engine will cost between 10K and 15K by the time it's done.
Hopefully after spending all that cash it won't simply go boom and die on me.... that would really suck.
I have spare blocks but hopefully I can strengthen it so that I never have to worry about it.
Considering the USA ECOTEC 2.2L was destroked to 2.0L and produces well over 1000hp from a sleeved aluminum block I'm hoping our iron blocks will be as strong or stronger.
Who knows.... if things don't work out I might have to sleeve a block with some interlocking inserts....but I guess we will see what the race engine machine shop thinks about it.

The only thing I'm not sure about is the transmission.... this might be the weak point (along with the drive axles and CV joints which will need beefing up)
I'm thinking the 6spd F28 might be the best idea but I'm just not sure how much power it can handle.
I might actually be better off with an automatic
but I will have to do some major research before I come to any conclusions.

Well..... after about 24 hours of driving my gas guzzling 83 Chev pickup over three days I now have two engines.
I just got back (left on thursday night) so I really haven't had time to look at the engines.
My 2.2L engine came with an invoice for the wrong amount.... they overcharged me by about $130 and didn't include the starter
Needless to say someone is going to get a rude phone call monday morning
The guys in Billings were great.... it was the dick heads in South Dakota that screwed me over (plus the engine was shipped to Billings so I never got to see it before it arrived)
I will take some pics soon and post them.
I traveled from Edmonton,Albera,Canada all the way down across the border to Billings Montana and then over to Helena where I hooked up with WooHoo for most of Saturday.
We made a circuit board to convert the signal from his ECU into the signal required to trigger his MSD ignition.
Took most of the day but we got it working good about five minutes before his girlfriend showed up to go out for dinner. ( thankfully... like most women... she was late so it gave us enough time to finish )

yeah.. that was nuts.. i still cant beleive thats all it took to work.
we are planing for a trip next year to come up and see how things are done up there, so only time will tell
i had been thinking about the 1.6l and how much power i can get out of it vrs. the cost... if it would be worth it
so im going to look into internal parts for the 1.6l from over seas to see what i can come up with
if all goes well i might have a 1.6l project going on
if it doesnt sound good i will just run up the street and pick up that 2.0

ps Erfinder, I'm sending Tom a list soon of all the ARP fasteners that'll fit our engines. Hope you'll find it usefull.

Erfinder, Tom, if you want a nice manifold to bolt on your turbos, you can do what were doing over here now. Buy a nice shiny turbo manifold for a nissan off ebay. Hack of the original flange and weld on a stainless flange to suit yours. Then bolt on your favourite GT series blower like this chap...
