2004 Aveo-valve cover nipple open, missing hose or plug?

Here are the specs:
2004 SVM=no A/C, manual 5-spd
1.6L DOHC
24,100 miles

Last night I was cleaning the engine compartment up a bit and I noticed that while standing in front of the car facing it, just to the right of the PCV valve there is an open nipple (about 3/8" dia.) on the valve cover. I could not find a detached hose or plug. Does anyone know what this should be connected to, or if it should just be plugged?

My throttle body had some dried black gunk on it and I think that this opening is the cause of it.

I wish I could post a foto but can't at this time...no cam/PC interface. However, IF you were me, under the current circumstances--not knowing whether it should have a hose to somewhere--would you plug it or leave it open until you could find out?

OK, I got some pics, its my first time posting them I have no idea what size they will be. I put a piece of white paper underneath the nipple to make it stand out. It is just to the right of the pcv valve. What is this for? If it has been open for some time wouldn't this reduce the effectiveness of the pcv and have allowed blow-back build up inside the engine? There was a good deal of black gunk on and around the throttle body, air-intake hose, etc.

i did a image search on google for 'aveo engine" from pics i saw on there it looks like it attaches to the intake manifold

i may be wrong, id ask the same question on www.aveoclub.net. good luck let us know how it works out

this is a PCV port....

their are two ports... one big and the other is small... the big one goes to a point prior to the TB for open throttle ventilation while the small one goes to a point behind the TB for ventilation at closed TB (high vacuum behind the TB)

you are missing the hose for the small ventilation port and you should find a port behind the TB where the hose should go... i bet your car idles a bit higher than 850 RPM... right?

Thanks for the Info MMamdouh. Idle has never been a problem, I just went out and checked it using the car's tach and I'd say it is right around 850...of course that is not that accurate. Spoke with a friend this morning and he suggested that maybe ALL valve covers were CAST the same way and that MAYBE this hole was then DRILLED out only for certain models. I do not have any sophisticated way to check for vacuum or exhausting other than my finger or a piece of paper in front of the hole, using these there did not seem to be any noticeable air movement.

On the advice of my friend (Can't believe I didn't think of this--duh!) I straightened out a paper clip and tried to push it into the hole. It went in about a 1/4 inch and hit SOLID! I don't know why some engines would have this plugged and some not, but it appears it is a non-issue. Appreciate your help.

OH... so it is not actually a PCV port venting crank case pressure... if i knew this info from the start i'd have told you to forget about it.... some cars come out with extra stuff and some times it is plugged/bypassed on certain models when their is no need for it.
