moving on... im selling my two 12" subs tomorow, not because i dont like 'em... hell i luv em! but i just get bored of the bass and that massive dead weight in the boot.
got an 8" sub to go in instead, and i mite be able to mount that to my old parcel shelf, or maybe build it in to the boot seeing as i got some fibreglass laying around.
all im in need of now is...
-box for the sub
-amplifier for the sub (or i mite use a mini 40w amp i have)
-6x9 speakers
-and maybe another amp for the 6x9s
after the this stage of the sounds is sorted out, i'm thinking of getting a piece of stainless steel pipe to replace the central exhaust silencer to maybe get 1 or 2 extra horses from the engine (well i can only hope).
on ebay steel offcuts are about £25 for 57mm diam. & 1m length polished stainless steel... but im sure i can get it cheaper from a local steel works factory or somewhere.
does anyone have any experience with removing central exhaust silencers? eg: change of exhaust note/sound or power gains? ... just curious.

had a good look at the exhaust today to get and idea of how much pipe i'll need to remove the central silencer... and other than he surprising amount of rust i can confirm that it has infact got a de-cat pipe where the second catalytic converter should be.
i know that on a civic type-r replacing the cat with a decat pipe gives a 8bhp increase (saw the test on a tv show, they compared the stock cat, hi-flow cat and a decat pipe)... anyone got any idea what it might be for the little 1.3 8v? i think nxt time i get the chance i'll put the car on a dyno just to get some idea of what it's doing. lol

Uh ohhhh, credit card lol. Hate them things. Never gonna own one ever. Noooo way. Too easy to spend money and get into debt and the whole intrest thing doesnt appeal to me lol. Debiit cards are sweet though.
As for gains with a decat, not 100% sure. I recon it'd be more substantial on a smaller engine than a larger one. I mean putting them in perspective, the amount of gain, maybe 3/4bhp, would seem more substantial at 90bhp than it would at 150bhp.

its been a while since anything's been done here... so next week the central exhaust silencer is coming out, gonna go round a few metal works places or breakeryards during the week or at the weekend to see if they have the pipe i need.
once its done i'll get a video of it so you lot can hear if it makes a difference.

replaced the central silencer with some 57mm diam. stainless steel pipe. it's still blowing a bit in places, but getting there slowly... and should have it completely sealed by the end of the weekend.
as far as noise goes... not much really... just a slight burble, but a very nice subtle burble that doesnt sound ricer-ish at all in my opinion. (will get a video later)

ye, its 57mm diameter all the way, the bit that looks narrow is where the heat shield is. look closely and you'll see the outlines of the new pipe.
to seal it, ive cut 4 grooves in each end to make room for inward bending, then clamped it with exhaust clamps after hammering in the 4 corners. and then used Holts Exhaust and silencer sealent putty stuff. the orange stuff u see is holts silencer repair bandage... and that stuff goes rock solid in minutes once the engine's been running. (only needed it up one end where i cut one of the grooves too long and the putty cudnt cover it well enough)
after i made it a bit more air tight following my initial test drive, i noticed a raspiness between 2000 and 3000 rpm, then it smoothes out. and bottom end torque seems somewhat better, making 3rd and 4th gear good for town driving (i thought it wud affect top end power more - but only a dyno test can tell)

welded the exhaust today... have had to reseal it twice with the gun gum putty, but it kept cracking from too much flex in the exhaust. so i headed over to B&Q last week and bought myself an arc welder and done the job myself. was quite proud of getting it right first time round seeing as ive never done any form of welding in my life, unless u wana count soldering, haha!
if anyone else is thinking of replacing the central silencer with a straight pipe i'd recommend welding it on there instead of just using clamps. (i like to learn things the hard way lol)
