quick question...
are there any performance gains (eg: less restriction) when removing the rear silencer from the exhaust and replacing it with a straight pipe?
not the rear muffler/silencer/backbox... im talking about the silencer in the mid section just after where the second CAT should be.
and what differences/advantages, other than noise, do aftermarket backboxes/muffler give?
removing exhaust silencers?

Cargo cultism is a beautiful thing as long as you never fall for it.
From my experiences you do get some gains, as long as you still keep a bit of backpressure.
However my friend had a straight pip from his downpipe to his backbox, and when he put in a centre box it felt a whole lot torquier.
But afaik, the standard downpipe and backbox will create sufficient backpressure for you get gains from taking the centre box out.

i am thinking of replacing the backbox with an after market, less restrictive one further down the line if it can help a bit more... yes, a baked bean can.... 4" exit (cos they are the easiest to get hold of, and at £34 no one's gonna complain).
