i was wondering if could help me, i have a 1998 Lanos 1.6 SX and it has started to go through water, i have to refill it at least every 20 minutes.
Me and my dad look at it and told me he thinks it the head gasket, but am not sure as i was told on the day but before it started to leak that i needed
to replace the water pump and belts.
So far i have took the refill oil cap of and checked the oil colour and it looks normal, the oil level is roughly the same.
is it smokeing really bad out of the tail pipe? when you did the water pump did you drain the whole cooling system? have you worked out the air in the cooling system?

No its not smoking out the tail pipe, the water pump has not been change yet, i'm still waiting for a quote for the work, garage told me it need to be change because they think the berring is going,
if there was air trap in the cooling system wouldn't the engine overheat or run at a high temp
yes it would run hot. hmmmm this its strange one, are you sure there is no water spilling out and maybe evaproteing befor it hits the ground (landing on a hot surface that cooks it away befor you can see it)

i fill the water up to max mark, i then ran engine to get in to op temp, then check for leaks, there is one but can't pinpiont the leak but it coming from the water pump area.
so i can rougly say its ether the the water pump itself ,the seal or a pipe connecting to the water pipe
i know for some reason when gm build engine most of them relay on the water pump to do most of the tension putting pressure on the water pump.
i will also change my other belts as well (fan+p/s & a/c) at least then i know they have all been change, so i then don't have to worry about them for a bit
As far as my experiences go, cream in the oil cap is not normal unless the car's been sitting up for a while and it's just a bit of condensation or 'sweat'.
If the engines been running daily and the cream keeps building up, suggests waters contaminating the oil, which to me says either headgasket, or pourous head.
got to book car in to the garage to have it done got a quote from one(£300-£400) but some one told me to go to a diff one a school friend works there so can give me a discount on laybor
