yeah, i know. but companies dont always advertise theyre products' RMS wattage for the sake of making an easy sale. those 6.5" speakers are 125wrms tho (50% of Wmax).

most of the time those max watts are only reached at 2ohms anyway, which needs a bit of parallel wiring.

those 'mini subs' are 8ohm impedence each, so will definitely need to be wired in parallel (2 per channel) to get 4ohms.

here's one of my ideas:

400w 2-ch amp, on each channel wire a 5" and 6x9 in parallel to get ~3ohm impedence. then put the 2 5"ers in the boot lining, keep the 6x9s in the shelf and low pass it all, running only bass thru those 4 speakers, and trebble through doorspeakers and stock 4x6s. the doors rattle too much with those 5" speakers kicking out bass, and the stock 4x6s cant handle any bass at all (and theyr hi-passed @1.5kHz). ive had a similar set up before, but with bass only coming from the 12" sub, and trebble from evrything else, it sounded clear, but i had no mid bass. with smaller bass drivers this should be solved, and im not after deep/heavy bass either. just tight, responsive bass, which is why the 12" JBL had to go - and ive sold the amp for that now aswell.

forgot to add: those amps are stable down to 2ohms, so ~3ohm impedence should be relatively safe.

alot of times they cant even achieve the max at 2 ohms. the amp would have to be 100% efficient.....thats never gonna happen.

i dont seem to be sticking to any initial plans at all the way i'm buying useless crap.

so far ive bought:
-1000w 2-ch amplifer
-2x 12" 700wmax (400wrms) subwoofers

at least now i know i wont struggle for ideas as to what to use my old wooden cabinet for. lol

im thinking... boot build... with 2 or 3 12" woofers. or i might sell on the extra 2 subs, seeing as i got the pair for only £28 (brand new aswell)

my old daewoo door speakers are now in a little box i built last nite. will put some pictures up later.

duno yet, mite just spray the whole thing black, but its not goin in my car... just gonna use it as an alternative for computer/mp3 player speakers. and ive got a 40W (16VDC) amp for it, which runs off my computer's power supply, so its closer to 30w at 12VDC.

It's good that you're using the boot as the 'box' in your car, 'cause a friend of mine build a box for his 10" and 2 6x9s on his parcel shelf and it eventuall broke the plastic trim holding the shelf up, in the rear 3/4 of the car.

He now has it braced with metal bars, and it lifts up via bonnet lifters lol. Looks mad.

im not too worried about plastic trim breaking in the lanos, as its quite tough. will probly need to enforce the actual shelf eventually before it sags too much and snaps.

anyways... some pics:

that sub box laying in the boot isnt hooked up, and i sold it last nite after i put the new shelf in, so ive finally gotten rid of that heavy JBL boxxed sub.

specs:
amplifier: 2-channel 1000wmax, LPF@180Hz
woofers: 12" 700wmax, response freq. 20Hz - 700Hz

when i first thought of making this "enclosure" i thought the bass would be JUST deep bass without any tight/fast response to drumming... but i have to say, its the best of both worlds. if the music's bass is deep and low it responds well and makes me think im gonna blow out the rear window. when it comes to tight/fast drumming bass it's even better. one song that really showed how well the subs react is Run DMC ft. Aerosmith - walk this way.

im really surprised at how well this now works, and i dont think i'll ever go back to putting a box in the boot - if done properly, this really does work well.

on top of the good sound it saves a lot of boot space! lol

no comments on this invention then?
i know the pictures are shite, cos i took them in a hurry. will get some more once the rain goes away.
and i still need to cover the shelf with something to keep it hidden from prying eyes. lol

so thats my audio stuff sorted for now... except i am considering getting a new headunit, with either a usb port or aux-in port for mp3 players.

other mods are slightly halted whilst money is saved.
the headlight mask painting will be done once ive got a replacement for my left light cos its got a crack on top (not the lens, the bit near the bracket closest to the bonnet).
as far as the front lip story goes, not sure bout when that can happen, cos i need to get all the scuffs and scratches removed and painted before doing anything else with the front bumper.

yes. thats why i want to cover it completely like those stealth shelves. just a case of getting the right carpet/felt material. seemingly hard to come by. may need to try ebay for this one.
