I'am always puzzled with cylinder's numerotation. Where is first and last?
What I can say you for sure is on my 1.6 DOHC when timing marks are set the piston near clutch (far right looking from front of the car) is at TDC ending compression. You can check it on your engine by removing all spark plugs and "finger feeling" compressions while a helper is turning crankshaft.

I'm going off the numbers off of the spark plug wires, i could be totally off. I'm refering to #1 as the one closest to the gears.
I'm now stuck with finding someone to do this job for me or do it myself. I'm going to see a friend today who is the head mechanic at a local GM garage to see if he would be willing to do it.

you should just align the marks
