Custom intake manifold

Post by Brian5475E »

has anyone made a custom intake manifold for the 1.6l, my cousin has a new focus 2.3 with the tri chamber intake similar to own dual chamber intake. well cosworth makes inatke for the 2.3 that gives a 30hp increase. Seems to me these multi chamber intakes are restrictive. thinking about building a intake myself.

I don't know anyone who's made their own intake for this engine, however, try the German companies Mantzel, Lexmaul and Dbilas for intakes. There are also several throttle body kits availble in the UK from SBD, Jenvey, etc.

Mantzel Powerbox - attaches to the lower half of the X16XE intake

Lexmaul Ram Intake - again attaches to the lower intake

Dbilas - complete intake

45mm Jenvey throttle bodies

From the pics I've seen in the Daewoo manual the head is the same as the Opel X16XE. For those manifolds to work (apart from the Dbilas and Jenvey items) you'll need the lower part of the X16XE manifold. You should be able to find one in the junkyard if you look for Corsa B, Astra/Kadett F and Vectra C. To check both the intake and exhaust manifolds before you buy, it is worthwhile getting the intake and exhaust manifold gaskets from an Opel dealer (you'll need them anyway if the heads are the same) and check against yours.
One thing to consider is that if you find a early Corsa B GSi in the junkyard and it has the engine code C16XE, pull off the head as the ports are better flowing than the later X16XE. With a new manifold, intake and the C16XE head the 1.6 can hit 140-150hp with mapping.
