broke crank pulley

I tried searching and didn't see anything about it. I just bought the a 2001 Nubira last night and towed it home on my trailer. Back it off the trailer and the the outer ring of the crank pulley was literally laying on my trailer?? Kind of funny actually. Anyways, is this a common problem for a pulley to come apart? I really hate spending 80, 90 bucks a new one. Any ideas??

i dont think the bolt broke i think he is saying it was the pully its self

Is it a damper pulley 96419497 with some rubber inside for this model?

Yes it was a dampner pulley with the rubber between the metal. I was a bit suprised myself.

I have read on other forums that it was a common problem on some french HDI engines. Never heard such problem on Daewoo.
Could be someone tried to unlock the single center bolt by holding this pulley on outside rim?

Well i had to take some kind of measure today to see if i could find my oil pressure problem. Sooo i actually cut some little pieces metal and welded those to bridge the inner and outter piece of the pullies. Worked. Little bit off camber, kind of wobbles a little bit, but it was perfect to be able fire it up and watch the the timing belt work and watch my oil pressure. Still have to get one though. I'll post a pic of my jerry rig job after i take it back off!

Crank pulley are quite cheap. A 40-50% lightweight aluminium one only cost abt $250 US in Singapore.
I have been using one for 3 years. No such problem.

Your engine is not designed for a one piece solid damper/pulley/balancer.. if it's solid, welded or or out of balance your crankshaft will suffer.

You need to replace your original damper with the original type (two piece, bonded together) this design 'cushions' the harmonic vibrations on the crankshaft. Get a good used one out of a salvage yard or a new one or a rebuilt.
shouldn't cost too much.

The only reason i welded it was so i could start it and work on my oil pressure. It is only temporary. I'm on the hunt for a new one!

its a "high performance" pully. i know it costs more than a oem one but it will help you move along easier and you can get better gas mileage with it too
