E85?

Post by daewoomofo »

with regular gas at $4.00 a gallon, and E85 at $3.50 a gallon i ponder the question....
can i run my 2001 1.6 lanos on E85? if not what would need to be done to make it possable?

sorry if this had been gone over before, i used the search function and got alot of other posts about useing E85 as a sepeperate fuel in a turbo car (dual fuel)

You'll need new fuel lines and seals. Preferably silicone or hard lines that lead from the hard line connections that lead into the engine bay (We have hard lines under the car). We have a metal tank, so that should be OK.

The Ethanol can eat away at the rubber lines and fittings in our cars. Luckily, it shouldn't be that hard of an upgrade. It involves swapping out maybe 3-4 feet of line. It's very easy.

Won't you need to do something to the compression to run it properly on a fuel like that?

yeah after i posted this thread i did some research, in order for my car to run on E85 eficiantly i would need to raise the C/R. if i didnt then yeah my fuel would be cheaper, but id use more of it so i wouldnt be saveing any money. thanks for the info guys.

Some guys on a french forum are trying E85 in their Daewoo. And at least one of them didn't use any "conversion box". Till now it seems to work.

Prices difference per gallon is higher in France than in US.
E85 and LPG 4.73$ 8)
SP95 8.9$
G/O 8.3$

You don't need to touch the compression ratio...that's only if you want to experience the full benefits such as the higher power bump and whatnot... cars that are meant to run only E85...like the new Saleen S5S Raptor have high C/Rs. There are a bunch of GM cars around here that I've seen with the E85 logo. But there are NO E85 stations meaning these cars have to run on pure gasoline. If the C/R was higher, then they would experience detonation and other problems. They have stock engines, but the differences lie in metal gas tanks, hard fuel lines and silicone fuel lines.

Your car WILL run E85. It can run it stock, but I recommend fuel line swaps to make it useful long-term.

All new cars sold in Brazil have a tweek or chip in the computer that allows the engine to operate on either pure gasoline or E-85.
So,with a flip of a switch you can fill with either or both.
This is interesting because from what I hear most new American cars do not have this feature. For instance, a new Saturn sold in Brazil has this chip and the same car sold in the USA does not. Hummmmm ?
In the entire state of California? We have only one E-85 station (San Diego)
And yet our farmers are growing corn where cotton was king for years and years.
All human food with corn in it and dry dog food (mostly corn) price's have gone way up in only one year.
Some prices have doubled !

Food for fuel is a suck idea. At least in Brazil they use whatever scrap pieces of sugar-cane stalk's that are left over from the cane crop harvest to make ethonal. I understand it can also be made out of weeds.

The good news is most Daewoos will get around 30 mpg ! Compare that to a big ole SUV.
