gse_turbo wrote::? well atleast you have a back up motor. sorry for the hang up, atleast now you can install the spare motor and F28 tranny together, that should make things go a bit faster.

Yah I'm sure my "fresh" motor will make a nice bump in performance. :D

Hopefully I can do the F28 and motor at the same time.

I'm not really that disappointed or sad about this though because my original motor took ALOT of beating (think 200km/h+ highway pulls) haha I'm surprised it lasted this long without any problems.

Re-did the compression test today and put some oil in the low cylinder. That brought it from 120 to about 140psi..... so I guess there is some damage to the rings/cylinder wall, but also there must be an issue with the valves as well to account for the number still being so low.

quick F28 update

Post by exist3nce »

My mechanic has started looking at measurments for the custom mounts and should be getting the materials this week. We also plan to try for external slave that operates the stock F28 clutch lever...... more info and pics as they become available.

How long untill you think this will be done?

cuz as you know I need to do some work on my tranny....I'd kill for a external slave. My damn problem right now wouldn't have taken 3 weeks and 6 hours in labor.

I can't give an exact answer.... he wants to prep and build as much as he can before I bring the car in so that I have minimal downtime. My best guess is it will be done by the end of the first week in May. Yah he's confident he can make an external slave work, but ofcourse we won't know for sure until we get right into it .

Damn I need my car by then. I guess I'll wait till my slave or clutch goes out...probably won't be long for the slave

HIDs

Post by exist3nce »

Well I can't seem to leave my car alone while I'm waiting for my F28 swap :) I had a 5000K HID kit for the past 3 years, and the bulbs just recently started to go. So I bought some OEM Philips D2S 85122 bulbs and H7 adaptors along with P32 connectors. I did this specifically so that when I can afford a true projector retrofit, these bulbs will drop right in (not to mention OEM quality and reliability).

Pictures are from my cell phone, I lent my camera to a friend temporarily.

$120 CAD for everything shipped.

I should get them installed tomorrow and see how the output is.

I'm still dumfounded as to why the Willwood external slave didn't work out..... perhaps it's an issue of the master not matching up with the size of the Willwood unit ( master to small to make it work properly )

Because after all... the total stroke/throw can by adjusted by simply moving the connection to the lever.

I agree, my mechanic plans to chop the lever arm down a bit and make a bracket/mount for the slave. He thinks it should work, so I guess we'll find out. I believe he either wants to use a honda slave or one off a supra.

Haha the HIDs didn't exactly work out as I planned. The D2S bulbs fit in the H7 base but the bulb is too long and hits the little shield on the inside of the housing that covers the top of the bulb. I have some ideas how to make it work.... can't stand halogens anymore lol.

Projectors FTW

Post by exist3nce »

Now that I've decided to do a projector retrofit for sure, I've researched and decided what projectors I want to use.

I will be going with the projectors from the Infinity FX35 with clear lense because they are Bi-xenon and a reasonable size and price. Also they have a nice sharp cutoff. I will be using the Philips OEM 85122 D2S bubs as well.

I've got a spare set of headlights coming from Danny (thanks man) to use for this job while so that I can still drive around in the meantime.

Heres some pics of them:

Colour modding the FX projectors

Post by exist3nce »

I've been playing around with the FX35 projectors and I've noticed in stock form the cutoff line is very yellowish/red. This just isn't cool lol. After some research on HIDplanet forms, I found out how to mod them to get a blue cutoff line to get that sweet blue flicker in the distance. Keep in mind a 4100k OEM Philips bulb was used for these tests.

Before modding the shield (cutoff is yellowish):

After modding the shield (cutoff now has a soft "blue band"):

The bi-xenon shield before mod:

Bi-xenon shield after modding....... bent the shield closest to the lense downwards:

I don't really know, cause the original shop made that hole in the oil pan.
