Nitrous Surging, What's Going On?

Post by BosnianLanos »

Right now, I'm running a pretty weak 35 HP shot from my NOS wet kit into the Lanos Sport. It may not seem like a lot, but it turns the car into a whole different animal, and a very fun animal at that. The car is way quicker. The crawl from 60-90 has been transformed into more of a sprint, the 'Woo always had decent torque in low gears, but not it has some definite get-up-and-go. I'll be upgrading to a 50 shot rather soon, but that'll be later in the summer, when I can run dual bottles, bottle warmers, and a purge kit. I've done well this year, and my tax refund looks nice, so I'll have some spare time and $$ later in the summer. I'll keep you guys posted and have photos up soon.

But right now I'm running into a strange issue. My nitrous flow seems to be surging at random intervals. Not the kind of surge you get when you don't purge the line, but a steady slowing and accelerating of the nitrous flow. It isn't noticeable in gears 1-3, but in 4-5, at speeds in excess of 70 MPH it is definitely noticeable and changes the acceleration pattern of the car.

I closed the bottle valve and emptied the excess nitrous stored in the lines by holding down the throttle switch myself (car was off, don't worry!). The nitrous came in definite spurts, you could tell because it would get quieter and louder about every other second. Think wave motion. I don't have any kinks in the line, the line was properly purged and has no debris in it. The only things I figure it could be are either a faulty Fogger or a faulty Nitrous solenoid. The kit was bought used, and everything except the bottle was in rough-ish condition. I already have it in my budget to replace the fogger, and I had to re-solder a wire to the nitrous solenoid because the previous owner managed to rip it off.

I just wanted to know if anyone knows what this problem could be, before I start replacing parts!

I don't have much experience with nitrous, but that surging/pulsating sounds like a solenoid issue.

as existence said... check the solenoids or check the jets to see if they're clean.

i usually see that to empty the stores nitrous on the lines (with the bottle closed) you rev it to 3000 rpm and gently touch the nitrous button let go and touch it again until its empty
