Clunking noise when braking/accelerating...
I have a 2000 Daewoo HB w/ 68000 miles and recently I noticed what seems to be a clunking noise when coming to an abrupt start or a quick acceleration.
It may be the cv joints on the right side of the car or possibly a motor mount has failed????
Has anyone experienced this problem???

My 2002 Lanos HB has that same clunk sound, and it has had it since the car was new.
When I posted about it, no one had any real idea what it may have been.
I also notice it when I slow down and then accellerate again.
It sounds almost like a dead-blow hammer clunk on the bottom of the frame of the car ... or something like that.
It is a low-note sound, but noticably loud (from inside the car) clunk.
No matter how I try to lean over or move around inside the car, hang out the window, or have someone else drive while I listen, I can not pin point the noise.
I now just take it as one of the pecularities of my particular car. Every car has something strange about it, that happens to be what it is on mine.

Well my Racer does this "clunck" sound but its a bit loud... only does it when i do lauch it at 3500+ Rpms or when i shift into 2nd gear a bit quick...Chas Wiggins wrote:I have a 2000 Daewoo HB w/ 68000 miles and recently I noticed what seems to be a clunking noise when coming to an abrupt start or a quick acceleration.

I've looked and they are fine. My car has made this noise since it was new.
My transmission is automatic, so it is not from dropping down a gear with the RPMs too high.
I normally notice it when I am only 10 to 15mph, such as in my neighbourhood when I slow down to go around a corner, then when the car is straight again and I start to accellerate gently, I hear the clunk.
It is not CV joints or transmission or engine mounts. I have looked at all those and can not see anything wrong.
I have just gotten used to hearing it.
Next time I go see my parents, I will try my father's Lanos around his neighbourhood and see if it does the same thing.

I autocross my car on the weekends and drive the thing about as hard as someone could drive the thing...I was actually expecting the thing to break down much sooner but it has held up to at least 40 runs on 30-60second courses...
The sound is defintely coming from the right front side of the car...and the more I think about it the more I wanna say its a cv joint...
However it could just as easily be a bad upper strut bearing.
Where can I find a new axles and/or strut bearing???
Will a junkyard be the cheapest place???

I FOUND OUT WHAT IT WAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recently took my LAnos to the local dealer and they checked the front end and could not figure it out.
Well, I got under my car, checked a few things and realized what it was.
IT WAS A BAD MOTOR MOUNT!!!!
The front passenger side one. The rubber inside the mount was torn pretty badly, so I ordered one and will be putting it on in a couple weeks.
But anyway, thats what the clunking noise was!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
