Ignition question
I'm curious is any of you have an aftermarket ignition system on your daewoo, I want to buy a msd Dis , but I am not sure if it will work on the single coil, HAS anyone tried this?
Thanks in advance, Jon

A few people have aftermarket ignition.... unfortunatly the stock system is not directly compatible with the MSD DIS ( I have a programmable DIS2 )
I built a few signal converters a while back, and I might have one kicking around if you need it.
Alternatively you can use this as a guide to make your own... http://www.daewootech.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5973

I have an MSD DIS-2 as well and for some crazy reason I didn't need the signal converter. I'm also running an SMT6 piggy back but precisionboost didn't see any features on it that would have allowed this. Plus my SMT6 cracked and got water in it so it's all messed up and the MSD still seams to work

Do you plan to put your car on the dyno before and after you tune it?TheRiseIsTheFall wrote:lol, no.. just asked the guy, he had it on his (single coil) neon, and happens to have it set up for single coil(what luck).... It can actually be used on 4,6, or 8 cylinder cars it seems, hmm, interesting(so those newer coil pack mustangs)

Probably not before as I've already started adding different things here and there,Plus The closest place that'll dyno is 45 miles from me, lol.
Btw, I'm thinking of trying to run a Turbo backed exhaust set up(I'll lose about 2-3 psi by placing further along the exhaust, but won't need a intercooler, and will gain 35-40 hp cause the air will be cooler) Has anyone tried this on a daewoo yet?(how'd it work?)

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. Placing what further along the exhaust? and how will the air be cooler without an intercooler?TheRiseIsTheFall wrote:Btw, I'm thinking of trying to run a Turbo backed exhaust set up(I'll lose about 2-3 psi by placing further along the exhaust, but won't need a intercooler, and will gain 35-40 hp cause the air will be cooler) Has anyone tried this on a daewoo yet?(how'd it work?)

Placing A turbo near the end of your exhaust(usually in the place of a muffler). The air will be cooler since it travels further up the pipe and the turbo's cooler(Because not near hot engine cmponents)
I'll find a good diagram then edit this post.
I know what you are referring to........ usually called "remote mounted turbo". I think the extra piping and complication added with these systems is really not worth it unless you really have no space in the engine bay for a normal turbo setup.

To this day I still have no idea why the MSD works on Kinky's Forenza.... it is a completely different ECU than the older Daewoo vehicles.
What kind of car do you have TheRiseIsTheFall???
Remote mounted turbos work... but there is definitly quite a bit of work to be done to make them work.

Oh I see, I don't like the idea of remote setups. An intercooler can probably do a better job of cooling and it may not drop the PSI as low. Not to mention it's much easyier to do.

I'm not sure, but don't turbos spin at something like 100,000RPM? It's not the engine bay heat that makes the intake air so hot, its the fact that you're compressing air molecules into a tighter space. More air being forced into a space who's size hasn't changed will get hot, and will need to be cooled if you want power, no matter where it is positioned along the exhaust path. I don't see how you figure the 35-40 extra hp gain from a remote system. I know their reasoning is that the longer intake pipes themselves work like intercoolers, but can they really be more efficient than a proper, high-quality FMIC?
I know the remote turbo systems work, but since your car has plenty of engine bay space, there is no reason to be different for the sake of being different. You'll have to run extra-long intake pipes, extra-long oil lines, and your turbo will always be at the risk of some road debris or worse-yet, some rain water. Sucking up water could be catastrophic to the engine, but having an operating-temp turbo immersed in cool water might also make it crack, potentially causing your engine to lose oil, maybe even sucking some metal shavings into itself causing it to seize.
Maybe my concerns are unfounded, but I'm not sure I like the idea of the remote-mount.
