oil change

Post by MMamdouh »

this would sound like a new buy question but it is a good one... is it advisable to change engine oil after a certain period of time regardless of current miles on it?

for example i am on fully synthetic oil now and i have done some 8k kms (5k miles) and i've been using it for 6 months now... should i change it now as i have used it for 6 months or stick to the km rating only??

The way i would do it is every period of time not every certain amount of miles.

I'd advise you to change it if your car's been lying up for a while not being used, as most of th crap will gather in the sump.

it has been used almost every day of the past 6 months doing an average of 20 to 25 kms per day or more... oil still looks good as far as viscosity is concerned so i am worried if the time factor has an effect on the chemical structure of the oil or so

some people argue that it is some 6 months or so... they say this is because it is a chemical substance that indures conditions affecting its charactristics and thus should be changed after a certain period of time

some others say this is all bullshit... i am lost in between

I've found different scheduled oil/filter change for Daewoo's. Seems to be a "hinge" around Y2K.
Lanos, Nexia, Espero, NubiraI,... 10kKm or 6 months.
NubiraII, Lacetti, Kalos, Rezzo, Evanda,... 15kKm or 12 months.
To be cutted by half under severe driving conditions.

I come accross this site too while searching: http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm .

if the car has been used every day and its 6 months old, its not a problem. if the car sits for any extended period of time you should change it even if it only has a couple hundred miles on it.
