Oh and check out my latest bits n bobs. some 280mm Zaphira 5 stud disks modded to fit the 4 stud Woo hub instead of the 256mm disk.
AND aint these jsut mouth watering, picked these up for a song, couldn't resist. now just gotta make up brackets to make them fit the Woo.
Also picked up a set of Opel Kadett Super Boss rear disks, going to Johannesburg (600kms) next weekend to a wedding and picking them up same time

Lol thats class, brembo are the shit like.
And haha, I had thought you were of some irish descent anyway, seen the fadda over the e in your name, and well, your second name's brennan, not that many ppl outside of ireland called that lol.
I was outin Carrick the other day too. Nice place. Except the big power plant lurking round the corner xD Always loved that like, lovely wee town on the coast, old castle etcetc, lovely grass and walkways, always really clean. Then you go round the corner and there's a massive power plant
Anyway, why don't you go for a 2.0 opel engine then? They drop right into a lanos. The 2.5 v6 will fit it but it's a bit more jip than the 2.0.

Yeh the Antrim coast is frekkin gorgeous.
Went back to NI about 4 years ago and stayed with mate, Stuart, in Carrick (nick name is Big Dog) 110 Kg Rugby player !!! We took a drive up the coast on the wee back roads up to Bushmills............... i'm an official Irish Whiskey taster now
Aunt and cousin arrived in yesterday, left Ireland's cold behind and arrived here to 32 degrees heat and +7 extra for the humidity, i think they thought they had arrived in hell
I think the 2 litre is the answer and they sorta dirt cheap, about 330 quid.

Is that for a redtop? The 16v engine or the 8v 2.0? Or the ecotec?
I've a 2.0 8v [20seh i think] in mine atm.. looking a new car though
And haha that's cool about the bushmills xD
I always say i hate Ireland but i secretly love it. It is a really beautiful place if you know where to go. Example, where i live is full of scum bags and vandalism/theives/broken glass everywhere and like every other night they light a fire with all junk, usually someones garbage bin. But then again, go up near Donegal etc and its amazing. Guess you get this to an extent everwhere.
Anyway back to the point. The retop engines are notorious for the head's going porous as their aluminium. Coscast is a better version of the head and can be identified 2 ways, It has a sortof.. Z shape on the side of the head that the GM aluminium head doesnt, or, under the exhaust or intake [cant remember] there's a coscast stamp. Idealy you woul want a coscast head if you're buying a redtop.
The 2.0 8v engines, c20ne and the 20seh are bullit proof. Really are. So reliable, and not that hard on the juice if maintained properly. Parts are cheap as hell too.
The ecotecs, i honestly don't like. They're a watered down version of the older opel engines. the 'C' labeled engines and before. exmaple, x20xe is the ectoec equivilant of the c20xe. Sample compression ratio, same displacement, bore etcetc, but the head and the ports are different. They're a more economical version, and thus they don't show the same benefits a redtop would with mods. Think the 2.0 16v ecotec, x20xe is around 130bhp? Can't remember offhand and the redtop, c20xe, is around 150bhp.
Choice is yours, redtops are few and far between these days.

Yep it's the ecotech 16v.
SA had the Superboss Kadett (hatchback Astra Mk2) and used a modded version of the red top motor and it gave 125kW from the factory.....168 hp !! BUT they are like hens teeth.
Garrat came back to me with good price on the Cometic head gasket, soooooo might just put the 2 litre bit on hold
As they say, confucion reighns supreme.

Injectors sizes ?
Right, i got my Cometic head gasket from Garret - Thanks mate.
Paid my bloomin 20% duty and 14% VAT - Welcome to Africa
Am thinking of getting new injectors, the ones i am running are 2nd hand jobbies and i was told they are just a tad over 300cc, (i can't find ANY ref for them anywhere on the net)
from calculations, the motor should make between 140-160kW at 0.7 bar boost and most of the computer programs say 400-420cc injectors. Anyone got any ideas on the injector front ?
Oh and i found this interesting from IPP, Scat rods for the 1600 @ $299 !!
2-5110-1691-862-708 1.6L GM 4 cyl. 5.110 Rod Length, 1.691" Journal, .862" Width, .708" Pin,
ARP 2000 bolts $299

RIght, the sub assembly is back together with new Opel main and big end stretch bolts.
Torqued them up, marked them with white marking pen then did the stretches as per the deownload from this site
And here is why you don;t use the standard gasket when boosting a 1600 16v. Danny in South Africa had similar problems until he O ringed the block. Thanks to Garret i now have my cometic MLS head gasket.
I'm also going to order my new 400cc injectors tomorrow, i want to keep the boost at 0.7 which should give around 160kW.
Oh and i just left the exhaust manifold in to get ceramic coated, cost me R950 which is about 130U$.
Will get it back next week soooooo watch this space.
Still waiting for the local Daewoo spares importer to get my new head bolts.

Rightyho, finally got the new head bolts. so as soon as i get a gap, i will put the rest of the motor together.
Picked up the exhaust manifold after it's ceramic coating inside and out. looks great, certainly better than the raw unpolished stainless.

I must say what a huge help this site was yesterday (01 June 08)
Used it to download the sequence for Torquing the head and replacing the cambelt, brilliant.
So the head is back on with the new Cometic head gasket, the new timing belt is on, just all the ancillaries to put back and then fight with getting the engine back into the car
A few more Sundays should sort it.
