spluttery engine

Can anyone help with my problem?

I have a 2000 2.0 leganza cdx and recently when i lift off the throttle at reasonable speeds ( 40+ mph)
The engine splutters as though it is about to run out of fuel, this doesn't happen every time i lift off and some days are much worse than others.

Any ideas?

sorry about that

my car has done 78000 miles and was serviced approx 3000 miles ago, everything that could be replaced was.
the cel comes on occasionally and goes off after what seem like random lengths of time.
as for the fault it can go for days without juddering and then it will do it solidly for a couple of days some times really badly.

get your car scanned. if your in the usa autozone will do the obd2 scan for free, finding out what the code is would be a good start to correcting your problem.
