Leganaza sometimes starts

Post by gpl71_az »

1999 Daewoo Leganaza SE, 5spd. Turn the key, engine starts (ffrom cold start). Drive around for a while then turn off the engine. Within a few minutes, go back and turn the key to start and nothing. Engine doesn't turn over but I have full power. If I wait 5-10 minutes, turn the key, engine turns over but is very sluggish and have to press the gas pedal as it's starting.

This is getting very frustrating because several times I have freaked because I thought I was going to be stranded.

Could it be something that is overheating or an electrical problem?

Anyone seen this behavior before?

Ya i had that problem on my 99 leganza auto. it turned out to be a bad starter at first then i found out a few fuses were also blown or going out. thats how mine was when it first started but then later on it got to be like an hour wait before it would start or sometimes i had to tap the starter to get it going. you might wanna get your starter checked and look at your fuses and look for any bad ones.

I've had this problem over the past 4 years and had the starter replaced (bought it from DaewooUS.com) about 18 monthes ago thinking that would fix the problem. It never did. The problem still remains and seems to be getting more and more common as the car ages.

Which fuses should I check? Under the hood or left driver's side under the dash?

ummm im at work right now so i cant tell you off the top of my head but you might as well just check all the big fuses that are on the right side of the box. it cant hurt to be safe and check em all. on the cover it should tell you what each fuse is for. when i get off work in like 10 min i hope if no customers come in i will check and get back to you wen i get home.

You mean the relays? The only real relay that affects a car started is the ignition relay. If that was blew it wouldn't start from cold either.

I don't know what your problem might be but I don't think it's a relay or fuse as that wouldnt explain why it starts from cold ok, but not after it's been running.

There's more than one. Usually one from the battery to the car, one from the alternator to the car, and one from the gearbox to the car. They usually look like straps that generall have no purpose but they're earthing straps, the one from the batter i think is a wire.

what you need to do to check the ground is to find the ground on the battery, now just see where that wire goes. all spots that wire leads to should be cleaned. remove all paint, grease, oil or any theing else that is at the contact points. if you have to use a file or abrasive wheel on a drill to get the contact points clean.
