Conrod question

Hi All, I have just had a head gasket leak water into number 2 cyl resulting in a nice bent conrod!
CAn any one tell me if the 1.5 sohc rod is the same as the 1.5 dohc?
Also tring to get hte water pump to move so that I can adjust the timing belt tension but it is solid!! wont turrn at all.

Are you sure it was head gasket failure and the water pump hasnt seized?

yes it was definatly the head gasket, the water pump is shaft turns fine but I need to rotate the whole pump to adjust the timing belt tension.

There are three bolts holding the water pump onto the block, all three have to be loosened off a bit to move it.

There is a spot on the casting to put a special tool so that you can adjust the water pump position.

I usually just make my own tool.... it's basicly something like a 40 to 50 mm wrench that is very skinny ( can't remember the dimension off the top of my head )

There is an official GM tool for the process but it's not exactly cheap..... where are you located?


I have a dead 1.5L SOHC (heavily bent rod on one cylinder) that has three decent rods.

So I don't have a problem giving you a rod for free... you would simply have to pay for shipping.

In fact, you should take 2 rods just in case..... I'd leave the pistons on there as well... I have no use for them... then you just swap in your old bearing and away you go.

I want one rod/piston combo for my collection of components ( I have rods and pistons from a whole pile of Opel/Daewoo engines )
