Aveo sunglasses holder

Post by TheGreatAndPowerfulOz »

Ever since I test drove a new Aveo, I have wanted the sunglasses holder that is above the driver's door.

I went to the Chevy dealer to order one.
Their computer shows the part in their diagram, but it is listed with the wrong part number.
The part number it is listed with is for the driver's side flip down sun visor with the mirror on the back.
They did not know it was the wrong part number until I paid for it, they ordered it and it arrived.

When I went to pick it up today, I had a nice surprize: wrong part.

The woman at the parts counter said she would research the correct part tomorrow and get the order in some time this week.

They could not find the correct part number anywhere in their computer. The parts manager did not know what I was talking about when I said the sunglasses holder above the driver's door, so I had to walk him out to the car lot and show it to him.
He wrote down the VIN of the car and thought maybe he could look it up that way, again with no luck.

So, I went to another Chevy dealer to see if their parts center could find the part.
Again, they have the same software with the same wrong part number. I took that guy out to see the car in the show room so he would know what part I was talking about.
He called GM parts main head quarters and was on & off hold for about 40 minutes trying to get people to track down the correct part number.
Finally, someone at GM said they actually knew what part I was trying to find and he got the correct part number.
I thanked the parts guy for his time and he said he was happy to have been able to help. .... I am going back to THAT dealer agian for service.

Anyway ... back on the road to the other dealer with the correct part numbner. They said the order would go in tomorrow (Wed) and should be here on Friday. The manager at the parts desk was amazed I got the correct part number when he couldn't.

LOL

When I have the new sunglasses holder installed, I'll post pics AND the correct part number for anyone else that wants to order one. :)

Hey Cliff,

You might have had better luck at a Suzuki dealership. The Forenza has that part as well. Since the Suzuki parts bucket is a little less deep they might have been able to locate it quicker. My .02

Is the Suzuki one in the center of the roof above the rear view mirror like most cars? I have not looked.

The one for the Aveo fits where the grab handle (some people call it the 'oh-shit' handle - LOL) would be located directly above the driver's door. It in fact uses the same screws and screw holes as the grab handle would if it were installed.

Yeah it is right there where the grab handle should be. It actually freaked me out the first time I saw it. I was like "what the hell is this thing?" LOL
Works well but I don't like reaching over myself to get my sunglasses. :D

Thanks for the information ... I'll check into it at the Suzuki dealer and see if they have them available, and also compare the price of it with the one the Chevy dealer is selling.
It is amazing how much of a price differance there can be from one dealer to the next.
Example: The timing belt for my 1996 Suzuki X-90 at the Suzuki dealer where I bought it was $62. The same belt at another Suzuki dealer 30 miles away was only $36 for the same part number for the same car. You know which one I bought. :)

PICS!!

It was not a direct fit ... but pretty close.
The alighnment tabs were on the top instead of the bottom, so they had to be clipped off and ground smooth ... no big deal, the screws secure the holder to the ceiling.

Then the holes on the holder were not quite far apart enough, so I had to drill the holes oblong so the screws could fit a little farther apart.

Overall, it was a 10 min installation after the clipping & drilling and it looks like it is supposed to be there. :)

Ok ... part numbers & prices:

Chevy part number: 96405113
Price: $25.53 + tax
NOTE: Chevy lists this part as a SUNSHADE, not a sunglasses holder.

Suzuki part number: 78114-85Z00 (maybe it is 85200 I can not read his handwriting)
Price: $21.39

:)
