bigger TB

Post by MMamdouh »

i was testing a 1.5 Hyundai excel that had some issues and noticed it has much better throttle responce than my lanos... that hyundai was a carburatd engine and i also noticed that the butterfly is much bigger than the one on my lanos.

is the bigger butterfly (or TB) the reason for the better responce i noticed? and if so will using a TB from a 2.0 on my 1.5 SOHC and boring the intake to match the TB bore enhance the throttle responce on my car?

In my lanos I use a nubira throttle and I noticed the better response. The sotck throttle of lanos are 58mm and the nubira are 62 and on the back are 65mm

what modifications did you have to do as far as the bolts goes? i know the holes on the 2.0 TB are small

also wouldn't boring the intake port help? i mean you still got restriction behind the TB due to the small intake opening

I don't think you'd get much benefit boring the intake if your TB has a smaller hole than the intake. Yeah there'll be less restriction, but you won't gain much. If you're gonna bore the intake you'd be best with a bigger TB. Just think of it like 2 pipes with water going through it, makes it much easier to understand.

But yeah, the bigger TB on the Hyundai is prob the reason you felt better response. It could be a lot more than just the TB on the other car though so, don't expect too much if you do go for a bigger TB

i was thinking of boring+ the 2.0 TB 8)

the reason for that is the fact that i noticed that the intake port on my 1.5 SOHC is the same size as the TB so a bigger TB from the 2.0 plus the boring to match the TB port will be the optimal upgrade... don't you agree??

Why don't you just go for a 2.0? Would save a lot of hassel :D

yes you need to port the intake manifold to match with the tb. The car react better with this tb... Acelerate faster...
