the redtop and iron eco combustion chambers are both 43cc :(
does anyone know the cc volume of the combustion chamber on the C20XE or like head?
if no one knows the exact number is the XE combustion chamber bigger than the XEV?
if no one knows that, what is the estimated compression ratio in an XEV motor with XE pistons?

well if your friend has had any major engine work done they should have measured it but outside of that the only place the specs would be is in a tech manual, if that.Pir0 wrote:Are the specs located on the head or what? My friend has an XE and an LET. I could ask him? But i'm not sure myself

What exactly is you're planning on doing?
Are you putting redtop pistons into a 2.0 ecotec block with a 2.0 ecotec head?
As far as i know, all ecotec blocks etc were based on a 1.8 block that stems back to the Opel Manta, the redtop and 2.0 ecotec blocks are the same.
I'm not the best with compression ratios, but seeing as the engine code for the redtop is c20xe, and the ecotec 2.0 is x20xev, the 'x' after the 20 represents the CR of the engine? both being 10.0 ≤ x < 11.5, wouldnt putting xe pistons into an ecotec block just be something very similar? Or are you after that ± 1.5?
Where my car is atm, the garage is owned by a guy who knows Vauxhall inside out, so he might know more about compression ratios and swapping xe parts for xev etc, for example I think he's using an xev block with an xe head on his redtop turbo atm.. [with 2 head gaskets for the lowered compression]

i was thinking of putting XE pistons into an an eco motor, ours here have 9.6:1-9.5:1

i got to thinking more about it and its true that the compression ratios are going to be the same on an XE and XEV but if the chamber volume if the eco head is smaller then the redtop that just means the the compression ration is adjusted by the piston.
if the CR is the same in both but the dish in the redtop is smaller then the eco and the head is bigger then the eco you could swap redtop pistons into an eco for an even higher CR then 11.5:1

actually what you have there will get me the exact info i need!
i need you to measure the combustion chamber, if you haven't done this before here's what i need you to do...
• get a piece of clear plexiglas/ acrylic... whatever you can
• find a syringe that measures 50cc or more (a farm supply shop is a good start)
• drill a hole in the plexi just big enough for the syringe tip to fit
• clean the head service
• put a small amount of oil around one of the cylinders
• set the plexi in place, the plexi will stick, you will need a spark plug for the next step
• fill the syringe to exactly 50cc or what have you
• now using a colored liquid, washer fluid will work, fill the combustion chamber using the syringe
• record the amount of water i took to fill the combustion chamber, it should be between 30cc and 45cc

nice find, that would at least comferm what one of the other guys from mig told me.
i'll have to back over the numbers from whaen i did this for my eco head but i'm almost posative that it was 30cc.
now to figure what he CR will be with XE pistons in an eco motor, should be over 11.5:1 perhaps 12.0:1.
