Hi, I'm the proud owner of a 2002 Lanos hatchback.
I bought it new back in 2003 when the local Woo dealer was "giving" them away for $6995 USD.
Best deal I ever got on anything I've ever bought in my 57 years!!!
She hit 60,000 miles a week ago, and as advised by the real experts here, I got a timing belt job done.
The dealer wanted almost $600.00, and that only included the belt and the water pump.
I went onto EBay, and got a belt kit, (Belt, idler, tensioner AND water pump) for $112.00 shipped.
I bought a set of plugs, AC Belt, Serpentine belt, and a gas filter for about another $50.00
Also, I was getting a CEL for the Evap purge valve circuit. And the NY State inspection is due in 2 days!
I habitually overfill my gas tank, and the mechanic who did the job - a good friend, NOT the dealer -
said it may be a hassle to get a new one.
Went to DaewooUS and looked up the purge valve. Part # 10293954.
Turns out this is a common GM part - cost about $20.00! The one residing in my Woo came from a Cadillac.
Took him a day to do the job, and Idrove it about 50 miles to get the sensors "ready".
We rechecked the computer - the Evap sensor had not become ready - but the light was off.
The car passed inspection easily, and I am set for another year.
Total cost?
$300.00 labor
$182.00 for all parts, including fix the light and "tune up"
I love this car more every day!

I wasn't complaining about the cost at all...
Got a friend at work with a Toyota. He's up over a grand trying to get the light off!!
I got mine fixed, and another 60,000 miles (at 35MPG!) for half that!!
BTW, in the 60,000 miles, I put in a set of brake pads, and one tie rod end..
When I got the car, some of the guys laughed at it. Now they want to buy it from me!

The $482.00 included parts and labor for the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner/idler.
Also, the labor for identifying and repairing the CEL problem.
And the part to fix it.
Plus the alternator belt, and A/C belt.
And a set of spark plugs and a fuel filter....
No complaints from me!
However, next time, I'll ship the car over to Cairo & save a few dollars!!
