spark plug wires age

Post by mohsen »

please anybody can answer me:

1-what the age of spark plug wires?
2-how to chek health of spark plug wires?
3-i have the folllowing problems:
A- rough idle or noise during idle
B- iam hearing noise at the end of each gear (just when i release the fuel pedal) and noise disappear just i press the clutch pedal
is there relation between bad spark plug wirs and the last 2 problems.

thanx for all

1- not spacific... mine never lasts more than 20k kms

2- at night pop the hood with the engine running in a very dark place and check for flying sparks arround the wires... revving the engine during so helps, or you can gut it in 3rd gear when you are doing 30 km/h and then floor it... if the engine suputtered then you got bad wires.

3- idle issues --> check spark plugs, wires, air & fuel filters, clean idle controller

can't tell about noises unless i hear them... got audio sample??

Is the noise "backfiring" ? (sound like rapid gun-shots?)

the noise is "backfiring" (sound like rapid gun-shots) only when i accelerate at idle and release the fuel pedal suddenly
but when i accelerate at gear 2,3,4 and release the fuel pedal the noise sound is like "izzzzzzzzzzzz" and the sound increase while the RPM decrease
and the sound disappear just i press the clutch pedal
and when i open the hood at idle i hear this "izzzzz" near the intake manifold

thank u

Your noise could be an exhaust system leak. Have a exhaust shop take a look.
The rough running may not be related to the noise.
Make sure your plug wires are good..(new replacements are not costly).. sparkplugs are questionable too.
try to eliminate one problem at a time.

you just might need a good tune-up

If it was a hole in the exhaust, it wouldn't explain why when he dips the clutch the 'izzzzz' noise goes away, if it's still there when decelerating [aka no excess exhaust gasses wether the clutch is in or out, it's the same]

He has given just enough information so we can only guess.
And he didn't respond to the good suggestions that MMamdouh posted.
Sorry, but I don't know what "izzzzzzzzzzzzz" is.
Which, by the way? he said "izzzzzzzzzz"goes away when he depresses the clutch..but can hear it when he opens the hood.....

So, this "izzzzzz"sound must not really ever go away.
He just can't hear it when he is at idle and sitting inside his car.
Maybe it's an exhaust leak? a tire going flat ? a fan blade hitting a leaf ?
Who can't say?

I think he should take the car to a qualified , reputable mechanic and let that person evaluate it first hand.
