'04 Optra5 Crank Pulley cracking

Post by mcrouchman »

Has anyone heard of the rubber encased crank pulley cracking away from the hub? I was hearing a squeaking noise from the engine when it was idling, so I pulled off the inner fender and watched...the pulley was wobbling! I shut the engine off and took a small pry bar against the side of the pulley and it moved quite easily...It has a crack in the mold following the circumference of the pulley where it is molded to the hub! There must be an awful crank vibration if they would design a pulley encased in rubber to dampen the harmonics, instead of using weights! Anyone else have his happen to them???

I've heard of that happening in the early 90's C20XE (older cousin of your motor), but not yet in the Optra.... Do get this replaced (scrapyard or under warranty), or get lightweight crank pulley from Kinkyllama
