Lanos Question--Timing Belt

Post by rkarl89203 »

here's a weird one....

Bought a Lanos 2001 a couple of weeks ago, 63 ,000 miles.

the dealer got hold of the previous owner who said the timing belt had NOT been replaced at 60K miles....

SOOO, got hold of a timing belt at AutoZone, and had a mechanic install it......asked for the old one to inspect it

Now the STRANGE thing is that the OLD belt looks brand new......

Very weird....it is NOt the one in the replacement box we bought, yet it looks perfect.....the mechanic said that since the belt is enclosed many turn out this way....

Is that true?

By the way the lanos is REALLY impressive....

Welcome rkarl89203,

My Lanos had over 110K miles on the original timing belt when it let go.

I don't know what it looked like at 63K.
Probably like your old one. ;)
