For those of you who run Windows (most of you do), you know that spyware and viruses are a real pain in the hard drive.

I have gathered 5 necessary utilities and put them in 1 location on my server for your easy access.
http://www.totalglobaldomination.org/software

You may have an expired or out of date antivirus program, so I have linked one that is free, and happens to be VERY good:
1) AVG Antivirus: If you want to read more about it, go here:
http://www.grisoft.com
2) AdAware: A spyware removal utility. Read more about it here:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com
3) Spybot: Search and Destroy Another spyware removal utility.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
4) SpywareBlaster: Yet another spyware removal utility.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
5) Sygate Personal Firewall A free, easy to use, fully configurable firewall. Read more about it here:
http://smb.sygate.com/download_buy.htm

Each program is very useful by itself.
Each one can miss spyware files/installations/registry entries
All of them used together can remove virtually every instance of spyware on your computer that is running Windows.
These utilities can also help prevent spyware installation, Active X installations, malicious Java and also browser hijacking. They are compatable with both Internet Explorer and Netscape/Mozilla/Forefox.

Install and run them all. Remember to update the latest definition files at least once a week to keep your system running at it's best.
I hope this helps you! :)

I've tried many of them... like Adaware, spybot, bazooka (manual removal tool) etc. A lot of them miss a lot of spyware... so I just gave up. I might restore the computer some day... it's a pain in the butt though to have to back everything up etc. Meanwhile I'll try some of your other programs, thanks ;)

You are right! I have Sygate Personal Firewall (free) and it is great.
I added it to the available downloadable software.

Thanks for reminding me :)

At home I do not worry about any of those problems because I do not use Windows or Linux. :)

No need to worry about viruses, trajans, spyware, or web browser hijacking.

Linux just takes SOOOOOO long to boot up and shut down.

Then you have the nightmare of trying to complie software and find missing libraries and then trying to figure out where to PUT the libraries once you have found them.

Many Linux software writers forget to package everything needed for a simple installation.

Linux can be fun to play with, but is a huge hassle if you actually try to make it do what you want.

Zeta takes about 15 seconds to boot up and 6 seconds to shut down.
All the software libraries are pre-packaged for simple installation.
Take a look, it can't hurt :) http://www.yellowtab.com

Get spybot S&D 1.3.... especially if you just reformatted your pc... and set up tea timer. that way anything hidden or non hidden trying to install into your registry will have a popup allowing or denying it.

I use Zone Alarm along with AdAware and Spysweeper - when it comes to spyware the secret is not to put all your eggs in one basket ie depend on just one program (just MAKE SURE you keep 'em up to date!) Works for me :)

I used tot think depending on one program that was kept up to date was all that was needed, too, until I installed multiple anti spyware programs that found a lot of stuff the others were leaving behind.

Again ... I hate spyware! LOL
