Dear friends,
I am driving a 2.5 yrs old Optra5, done 40km. All servicing done according to schedule.
Recently, I noticed a intermitent clocking sound coming from the engine only when the air-con is ON:
a) when car coming to standstill from moving.(more apparent when brake is applied )
b) sometimes when the car at standstill
c) also when the accelerator pulley is pulled in the engine bay. sounded after release. Engine vibration was noticed.
It sounds like something is loose and clock....clock for a around 2 seconds each time. Sometimes can be as long as 5 seconds.
My mechanic told me it was the belt on the left of the engine block and got replaced. However, the sound remain audible after replacement.
anyone has the same issue and got rectified?
Engine clock....clock sound

Hi tede,
Maybe your compressor is not staying on ?
Open hood/bonnet, start engine , turn on A/C,
listen to A/C for:
"click" (sound)
Does the sound repeat many times, fast, again and again ?
off,on,off,on,off,on,off,on=click, click, click, click, click, click ?

Sorry, it wasn't clear from me. What I mean was not the cooling fluid level in the radiator but the refrigerant (R134 ?) in the A/C system.tede wrote:Hi Daniel,
the refriderant level is ok. how to check for intermittent clutching?
regards,
A/C system can leak if they are not regularly used. I switch A/C on at least once a week even if not needed. This help lubricate Oring seals of compressor.
Depending where you live you can try refilling A/C whith some refrigerant. Not available everywhere. I remember this one: http://www.id-usa.com/ . Pay attention that can burn the skin by the cold if it is not correctly used.
Otherwise you have to go a specialized workshop.
BTW is your car not under warranty?
Daniel
Hi spider,
Each time after I start the engine, after 5 secs, there will be a single click only.
Hi Daniel,
the mechanic (under warranty) replaced the V-belt. He is not sure if it was the true cause. But indeed the sound was softer. Later, the sound come back again.
As for the refrigerant R134, I think if on a hot day, I can get cold airflow, this level should be alright, right?
