Need Help With Custom Fuel Lines. Experts Help!

Post by BosnianLanos »

Just bought everything I need from Jegs to convert my metric fuel system to a quick-disconnect -AN thread system.

I have all of the fittings, hose ends and hose required, but now I'm having some trouble putting it all together.

Everything is from Jegs, and the fittings are stated to be "engineered" to fit their Pro 200 stainless braided hose, but I'm having trouble getting them to fit together.

I've found that if I strip the SS off of the ends of the hose, I can get them into the coupler just fine, but it leaves and unfinished looking product.

Is there any trick or tool I'm missing, or do I really have to strip the ends. I know I've ordered the right parts, and the way I'm doing everything know works, but I'm having trouble doing it easily.

Any help or link would be most helpful.

If so, this is what you need to do:

For starters, the cut on the stainless lines must be absolutely clean!!! To do that, wrap a few layers of electrical tape around them. Make sure you have fine-tooth metal hacksaw. Secure one end of the line in a vise, then slowly cut the line. Use small side-cutters to remove all steel lines that stick out. Then, remove the red part from the fitting (based on the above photo), and screw them counterclockwise onto the braided line (yes, the side you would normally unscrew). Make sure the SS line bottoms out at the inside lip. Once in, use something like a bigger screwdriver, and carefully bring the inner line back to round, if disformed. Apply a few drops of engine oil onto the thread on the blue part of the fitting, and screw it in the normal way.

Hope this helps

Yup, thats pretty much everything I need, thanks a million. And yes, those were the parts I got

My main issue is physically fitting the SS hose into that red portion. It simply won't go it unless I strip the braiding off. Again, I'm sure I got the right parts and that they should fit together...

Is it supposed to be a ultra-tight fit, should they go in with a little fighting, or should the red bits just slide on?

Well, in my case the red part did fight a little, but I did not have HUGE problems getting the part screwed onto the stainless line. I had the line in a vise with a piece of round bar inside to prevent damage, and while pushing onto the fitting with a thumb, I was turning the spanner counterclockwise. The OD of the SS line should more or less match the ID of the red fitting. If not, then you have the wrong SS line.
